Thanks Gary, I can't take credit for the lighting and clarity ..... they were there, but that's what caught my eye and made me look,

I see at least a couple techniques put to use here.

The subject as somewhat distant and not immediate in the frame establishes the futureness of the pain;

there is time to contemplate it, enduring both the dread and the reality.

The selective focus on the leather and fishnet costume with its severe contrast, and the whip reinforce the reality of the pain.

Cool. Would like to know the backstory. Nice car... the result of dedicated and talented craftsmanship and interest. Also money... disposed on nice toys.

People are gathered together for this event and having a good time ... nice.

classic case of a fine_art_failure that will be destined to be a personal memory success. The moment is captured, defined and preserved.

Nice framing, the cigarette gives dynamic, and the textures (tarp, rope, skin, hardware) are rewarding to linger.

I think I can learn from this one. The principle of the eye going to contrast is invoked doubley. The plane is recognised, of course, by being isolated against the sky; and also the bottom has a multitude of elements as opposed to the austere top.

I like it for (possibly) different reason(s) than Jack. The elements are assembled (or seen by the photographer) in a "jazzy" way Caveat: I have a tin ear (and possibly eye..), but the assembly is of a bunch of disparate (some big and bold, (the dark shapes) vs. some smaller and bullet-like (highlight reflections on the piano and mike boom) vs the squiggly text of the sign, elements that come together in a non-obvious way like a jazz composition. Babbling my reaction(s) in an attempt to clarify them for myself.

Thanks, Daniel. Yes I find the whole north_of_60 fascinating, for its history, its raw beauty, and its people.

Thanks to both of you, because I'm glad you see the story. Unlike Daniel, I like the story, and don't see her sharing a secret with the newspaper, but friends affirming a bond by sharing. The logo on the t-shirt is just an incidental detail that is essentially immaterial, and does not mean the shirted lady is a reporter. More likely she got it at a rummage sale, or as a prize for being the 79th customer of the year. But I don't know any more than you do; I never met them. We all construct stories of out own from the clues, depending on our individual makeup.

Thanks Daniel; your use of the word 'psychedelic' indicates I kinda got through, in the somewhat indirect sense that I was taking photos during my first visit to New York, tuly a country bumpkin in the city, and wallowed in being overwhelmed.

The colours support the life spirit here. Love the interactions. Technically, the contrast overall creates dynamic range that gives life, and locally defines points of interest. The inward focus of the outside figures keeps the eye from leaving the scene.

Commendable on multiple intertwined levels.

Technically excellent with the management and inclusion of great contrast, both 'brightness' and chroma to grab attention. The details flesh out the textures to create an immersive reward.

Given these to work with, the (this) viewer responds on contradictory ways, fascination and revulsion, and that contradiction is the strength. Abhorence of the slimy texture, revulsion of the violence of the teeth, shock at the immediacy of the dead eyes. Fascination with the detail of the shape(S) of the fins,amazement at the roundness and color of the eyes, perfection of the scales.... .Awe at the existence of this in nature.

Aside from the reality, it is a wonderful exploration of color and shape

Children and sports make a wonderful combination for an untailored view into/of the human condition.

I get a nice sense of immersion.

Seeing a cluster of color on a rainy day is a good thing; capturing and presenting it as this photo does is a sharing that makes the world a better place, one view at a time.

Luvin the surreality; the foreground man could be placed there from another dimension, but maybe he's a figment also. But it's fitting as finance itself is a constructed reality? It's always a treat when you play with us.

Make a liar outta me....! I have firmly decided that partial desaturation is a cheap gimmick without real merit...., and you post this and gut my conviction!

It works with this story, indeed it IS the story of the photo, and I'm impressed.

Very appealing to view. The overall structure provided by the contrast, the right amount of environmentel context, the pose, and the spots of texture.
