I have found another picture that fits, the processing of the panorama now takes some time. The files are now also insanely high with +150 megapixels. Download the full-res panorama on Flickr.

Which do you think is the best?

Strange is that at the end of role 7 we suddenly take pictures in the Netherlands?

So either the numbers are wrong, or role 7 was rolled back before it was empty, and completed later.

I prefer the first of the two panoramas.

Wow.!

These are fabulous.!

Of course, that is one of the precious attributes of photography.....it becomes a time-capsule of life and society.

Those frames of the Boat/Ferry.....I wonder if any of that is the Bosporus Crossing.?

You have to laugh at the Pith Helmets. Circa 2020, it has become a comedic caricature of The White Man. It's something we think of only seeing in a Abbott and Costello, or maybe a "B" adventure movie. :)

On a car forum, one of the members asked me to print some 6x6 negs he had found at their new house.

Judging by the cars, it was about 1945. Turns out the pictures were taken by the parents of the previous owner. They contacted (the previous owners) her and her brother, and had them visit for an hour.

They looked at the 20-25 photos i had printed and the "kids" recounted growing up in the house and what the area had looked like in 1948. They had a couple of pigs and goats in the front yard.:)

Anyway....... that is a great project you have taken on.

Congratulations.!

Reminds me that I have some unused Panatomic-X expired in 1941. Maybe I will wait two more years to try it.

The decomposition of nitrate film mostly depends on moisture, so keeping them dry is good.

Thanks for showing the scans!

All aboard!

In the past few weeks I also checked Ebay for 35mm collections. As of late, there have been +250, +350, +900 35mm negative collections for sale taken by WWII soldiers on duty, from the axes and allied.

Unfortunately, the gargantuan +900 negative collection what appears to have been taken by a german soldier, sold for well over 600 USD. The other collections, sold for prices around their negative count. While the per-frame price is still much less than buying individual negatives, it is simply way over my budget.

I am not really interested in individual negatives, unless they appear of extreme historical importance, because complete rolls just give you a much better sense of being there, and watching the war through someone else's eyes. A single negative simply does not give you this experience.

With the Egypt collection coming to a close, I am watching some interesting WWII lots that will end soon. Hopefully I will get at least one. I also checked Marktplaats, and there are several original 16mm amateur recordings for sale from the 1900's to 1940's. Unfortunately I do not have the means to digitize 16mm myself, so I would need to send it to a company for HD scans. I do already have a german 16mm amateur recording, likely from the 40's, of forest scenery. Multiple scenes spliced together.

Hopefully I will be able to provide more stunning footage soon.

Oh, and for the Egypt film... I do have a few surprises in mind.

Our trip is just about to begin.

Ahoy!

I have scanned the last photos and uploaded everything last week.

The Flickr album has been sorted in alphabetical order.

The archive now contains just over 300 photos.

A number of panoramas have been added.

I am now making short animations by using photos taken one after the other, or while the camera was rotating.

I am interested in your favorite individual photos, and favorite panoramas. Perhaps we can choose several for restoration and conversion to color?

I don't know for you, but this project has certainly given me a different perspective in this era.

Hopefully it was interesting to follow.

Cheers,

Niels

Absolutely wonderful! Thanks for doing this. Just an odd thought. I see some pairs of images. Mostly photographers do this to change exposure or just for insurance. OTOH, if you're lucky, you might have a couple images taken from slightly different vantage points, that could create a stereo pair. I don't know if that was popular back then or not. I have mostly been using those to make composites. But some photos - especially series - do have the potential for a stereo-effect. Feel free to give it a shot and link them (Just a link, don't post the image itself.) I think Egypt-4-001 to 010 would work best for this.

I have added four photos that I forgot to upload to Flickr, of a boat entering the harbour.
