andrew_jacobson3
Hey,
So I have a Rebel XSi which I love very much, minus one particular issue... The shutter is too loud. I do a lot of shooting for concerts and I always feel horrible about it. Is there any way to quiet it down?

William Michael
Wrap it in an heavy Wollen Garment, like a Pullover or Hoodie: use the arms to tie on top.
You can buy a boxed noise baffle for the camera. These are used sometimes for set shooing on TV and movie Sound Stages they are very effective. You can also make one yourself - buy these are biggish. The sleve in the link above seems interesting also - and less bulky.
Use a 10D - beware this camera will NOT accept EF-S mount lenses.
Use a rangefinder.

WW
hjoseph7
You actually might attract more attention than the shutter noise with one of these.

http://www.shutterbug.net/news/090110duck/
alan_bryant1
I've used the camera muzzle that Peter J links to. I've shot a lot of live theater with it. It works well. You can still hear the camera, but not nearly as loud as normal. It takes practice to operate the controls inside it, so plan on practicing some before a critical shoot. It's also difficult to see the viewfinder; I snake a Canon Angle Finder C through the hole.

matthijs
Why not activate live-view? Slow AF but no mirror slap. (and heating sensor plus fast bettery drain, but hey, life is full of fun choices…) M.
