sm-anderson
I'm in the southwest corner of Wyoming, where there is a lot of elbow room. 30 minutes to the Uinta mountains (I can see them from my house), 1 hour to Flaming Gorge, 2 1/2 hour to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone, and there is so much more.

dianedh
What a wonderful thread!
I'm from a little historic town in North Carolina - Salisbury. It's about an hourfrom Charlotte and Greensboro, about 3 hours from the mountains and 4 hours from the beaches. Just a perfect location! My favorite spot to take pictures in right here in Salisbury. Lots of historic buildings, wonderful gardens, creeks and rivers.

astral
A mile or so from my home in Nottinghamshire, in central England, is a row of seven trees which are silhouetted on the western horizon. Because sky looks different day by day, week by week, throughout the seasons, I've been photographing these same seven trees almost daily for almost two years - and never tired of doing so. My favourite place, with a greater photographic diversity, is Brugge (Bruges) in Belgium which I visit many times a year . . . but the trees are all mine!

sketch_tbhotmail.com
Wow this thread was a great idea, very interesting places so far. I live in southern Vancouver, British Columbia although I'll be moving back to Ottawa, Ontario later this summer to be closer to family. I don't really have a favorite local spot as there's so many great ones around. That being said, I do spend a lot of time at Crescent Beach in White Rock because it's so close to my house.

bob_bill
Folsom, CA, near Sacramento and right across the river from Johnny Cash's famous prison. One of my favorites is Yosemite, 4 hours from here. Have made 3 mid Februiary trips to try to capture the "Firefall" that was made famous by Galen Rowell. About a week on either side of Valentines day, if there has been enough snow on the ridge, it is warm enough for it to melt to form Horsetail falls and there are no clouds as the sun is setting, the falls and its mist turns cherry red for about 5 minutes once or twice a year. I'm 0 for 3 for this bucket list shot. I liked the geometry of this shot , right triangles, parallogram, but it needed a circle, so added a moon, also a tribute to Ancil and another Yosemite photographer, Ernst Hass who said he didnt want to photo new things, but things in a new way. I will bet, out of the millions of Yosemite photos out there, there are few with a Folsom moon in them.

charles_stobbs3
Reading, Mass. The next county to the east has lots of conservation land and many walking paths. It's interesting how many of us prefer rural to city subjects.
