Good Wednesday everyone! Some really great images so far, here is mine for this week. Nothing special, just having some fun. For the safety minded, no the car was not moving, actually there was no car. The speedometer was removed from the car because it was defective. F2, Nikkor 50mm 1.4, Tri-x, if i recall correctly there were 2 softboxes with speedotron strobes.

00UFrK-166367584.jpg.a1c75f91fbf7cafdc8dbec3215a90f3e.jpg

This week entry was taken last Sunday during my photo and fishing day trip. It’s taken on Maitland River near Goderich, Ontario. Bass fishing was great. I hooked probably 25-30 fish. Biggest one about 4.5lbs. I was constantly on the lookout for something interesting to turn my lens on to. It was hot and sunny day. Light just was not right. Bright sun from the top just didn’t make it right. I was particularly concentrated on the small word around me. Around 4 PM light started to be a little softer, nicer, less hot. All kind small creatures started to come out to feed and to be fed on. My particular interest was focused on flocks of dragonflies trying to mate and lay the eggs in the weeds close to the surface of the water. I tried to snick on them for 1.5 hour without any lack. Every time I’ve got closer they just flu away and it took minutes for them to come back to same place. I figured my only hope is to join them in their environment. Water wasn’t deep. About 2ft – 60 – 70cm. I submerged myself in the river and only my head, D200 and right hand were above water. Left hand was holding rocks on the bottom preventing from drifting away. I’ve got closer to the groups of dragonflies and I became “one of them”. They didn’t fly away and I could do my thing. At same time sun was coming down fast and fog started to cover the river. I was handholding my camera. Iso was up at 400 and I did not want to go any higher. It was great 1 hour. Place was buzzing with life and I was right in the middle of this. I’ve got home same evening, went though the pictures, deleted unneeded. I have about 30 keepers. It’s hard to even select the best. In retrospective I knew some compromises had to be made like DOF is not deep enough but I tried to freeze the action. It was great experience. Next time I’ll be a little smarter and I’ll try to implement different approach to it. But I don’t think it will be this year. Our summer is almost over. Any day cooler air from the north will start to prevail. On the bright side salmon and trout will fill same river, and fun will continue.

00UFrn-166369584.JPG.533eae3e483c9daf7678be8872c56d6b.JPG

Another Wednesday and here I am admiring all of the photos that have been submitted.
Many "Thanks" to all that submit photos as I find this one of my highlights each week. Just to be able to hang out and submit something in such a worthy crowd is wonderful.
I was taking some photos of the sunflowers in our garden with my new Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 and this "BEE" stopped by for some pollen. Seeing this is a new lens and I am hand holding it I was a little surprised at what I was able to get.
The photo has been cropped, I cropped to the extent of keeping some sharpness.

Such quiet beauty in so many images this week!

As for me, well, I got to play around with my new fisheye the hubby gave me for my birthday. Good man...listens well to those not so subtle hints I start dropping a couple of weeks out.

Anyway, my image isn't of quiet beauty...just some fisheye fun with the St. Louis skyline taken from the top of the Arch.

00UFsE-166370284.jpg.17b118df1767b5f779767ca56e29ae4b.jpg

What wonderful images - too many to make comments on all however .... at initial glance I thought Rick D's hawk photo was funny but then I realized the squirrel was a 'goner' and that changed my perspective but still liked the image. Richard A - love the shot from your boat - hope you had a good time up at the cabin. I was off in the Caribbean playing on deserted beaches and my B&W Gallows Bay shot was taken in the quiet and small island of Nevis. Using the same lens as richard - my now favorite Sigma 10-20mm on my D300. I was fairly low to the sand with a high aperture to maximize DOF. I do my RAW processing with capture V1.3. All the best.

00UFsF-166370384.jpg.5171e098e1ef8293be5ffc6bb650d557.jpg

it's impossible to predict what critters are thinking. i expected this girl to sail over to another tree, but instead she turned herself into a missile hurtling toward some unsuspecting prey. i've never seen those little winglets before.

00UFsm-166373784.jpg.b5063c52bbe5c2c34fed245e87d9fa02.jpg

Good morning everybody, and happy WedNEsDAy ! This is becoming one of my favorite parts of the week. Thank you all for making me feel a part of this great community.

As always, I've got a few things to say:

@Jose Angel - Strong opening! I like the washed-out look, it makes me feel the heat at the beach. Those tables are missing a nice, cold beer though!
@Rene' Villela - Very dramatic lighting, and tough shot at night! Nice work.
@Ton Mestrom - That made me laugh, haha. "War, huh, good God, what is it good for..." etc. Your subject lends herself well to the B&W treatment (and the boat too, I guess, but I'm not looking at the boat!)
@Aaron Bonnici - What a shame, because it's such a dramatic shot! Did you darken it up on the left side any? I keep finding the lighter parts of the water drawing me to the standing person.
@Mike C - Very cool... I always love the wide-angle, low-perspective shots. Awesome clouds over the mountains and the huge DoF really helps. Love the detail on the mountains.
@Eric Arnold - Couldn't agree more. Simple and poignant. Says a lot, really.
@Chris Court - Nice shot, but I'm impressed by your signature line (not to detract from your shot). I've got to get better with PS. I do like the little boat way out on the horizon... little details make me smile.
@Bernard Mills - Haunting... horses creep me out. All the details seem to run together for me though, but I imagine that's what you intended with your smearing, right?
@Shun Cheung - I like the expression on Ryan's face. Can't wait to have kids of my own and watch them discover the world.
@Jens Frederiksen - Reminds me of home. :) Nice detail all the way through the field. I may have tried to lighten the skies a bit but that's just my opinion. Ignore me. :)
@Ian Rance - Wow! At first the light of the altar caught my attention, and then I saw the details on the walls and bricks, and THEN I saw the chandelier! Amazing! Did you do any post-processing here? 2 second exposure, film does some amazing things.
@Roy Skridlov - I see a litttle on the tips... but this is a tough shot to catch in-focus. Well done.
@Miles Riggin - Love the old wooden boats. Am I imagining it, or do the houses look like there's a curve to them? Or is it barrel distortion?
@Andy Chubb - Nice, simple composition. Absolutely love the reflection going between the two boats. (I see a theme forming here...)
@Matthew Brennan - Birds aren't my thing, but the colors here... wow. Very impressive. And on an effective 1000mm lens @F8 no less!
@Ken Yamamoto - I've been there! Your shot is much better than mine though. Plenty of terribly tasty things are sold in there, especially since Hershey bought Scharffen-Berger.
@Darko Vrsic - You make it official, this Wednesday's trend is nautical. Again... I love boats, and simple compositions, both of which you've managed to capture here. Well done.
@James Kazan - I like the form and lines here, especially of the curved wall towards the back and the windows on the facing walls.
@Alejandro Held - Wow, I love the detail of the veins! How do you like that lens?
@Wayne Wrights - Coincidence, your picture juxtaposed with Alejandro's? :) I like yours as well... again lots of detail. I'm curious... the sun was setting and you shot at f/16? I mean the background is really blurred, but I think I would have (in my naive way) chosen something more like f/4.
@Aguinaldo de Paula - Lots of color going on there... but given the event, that's no surprise! I like the composition here, just including his (?) legs and the balloons with the crowd out of focus.
@Gary McGhee - Looks like you guys had a great time! Those pebbles look like fun to walk around on barefoot.
@Elliot Bernstein - Wow... just wow. It brightens my heart to see such a clear, amazing picture taken with the humble D40. I love mine. :)
@Kent Shafer - Looks like you had a loud, good time! I'd be interested to see more pictures from the event if you have them.
@Richard Armstrong - Serene scene... are you out on a boat/kayak? I don't see any obvious ripples. Great tree leaning over the water!
@Rick Dohme - We've got a pair of redtails that live in our little valley... I love watching them hovering and diving in the morning. I've never seen them come up with anything this big, though!
@Bogdan Nicolescu - Hooray for fruit! I love markets!
@Tom Pernal - You know... I always end up taking similar shots, and they never get old! Hope your vacation was great!
@Jon Eckman - Gorgeous silhouette. The rope coil is what does it for me.
@Ray Szumilas - Oh man! At first I was thinking "Meh shot of the woods" but then I re-read your description and looked harder. That's crazy!
@alvin miranda - continuing with the Nautical theme... I've lived in Philly for four years and have yet to make it down to AC. Is thad bad?
@Matt Laur - Nice... especially like the detail preserved in the shoelaces and sitching. Everyone should have an old, comfy pair of docksiders.
@John DeMarco - Oh well now, that's much less fun! haha
@Timothy Hourihan - I love the lines! The words "Veloz Mesia" are those on the track? It's almost an abstract work...
@Waldemar Giers - I recently tried a similar thing... some friends and I were swimming in a lake near sunset, so I grabbed my camera and floated it out on a boat cushion, being veeeeryyy careful not to drop it (though I did soad my remote attached to the strap but it dried ok). It really makes for some awesome perspective! Love the story and the shot both.
@Amy Zlatic - Very nice! My mom grew up in Kirkwood if you know where that is, and I'm a MO native myself. Was the wind blowing that day? The Arch sways in the breeze... haha. Such a lovely city; I miss the Midwest sometimes. :(

So my picture is of my dear friend Keisha Hutchins. She is a professional musician and lives with her husband here in Philadelphia. Earlier this week I went to see them perform at World Cafe Live down on Walnut Street. She is spectacular! She has such a soulful and textured voice and is a wonderful, loving person to boot.
I hope the colors are right here... I posted in Digital Darkroom that my two monitors don't agree but haven't been able to do anything about it. I tritoned this picture, so it should appear B&W with a red/brown tint to it. The laptop makes it look blue, and I figure that can't be right.
Anyway, submitted for your approval, Keisha Hutchins' portrait.

How does Wednesday come soooooooo quick? This shot was taken late yesterday as my wife and I were enjoying some quiet time in our backyard. At first I was going to post the usual "full butterfly close-up" but as I was fooling around w/ some different cropping, this is the one that seemed to push the shot a little beyond typical. Nikon D80; 18-135; F5.6,1/125s, ISO 200.
I truly enjoy this thread and seeing everyones unique perspectives.
Mike C- your's reminds me of a trip I did thru Utah and Arizona.
Great colors Pedro!!
Rick and Carey - I love the shots of the "hunters"

00UFu3-166379584.jpg.e7825ea236851618635480518a8b36af.jpg
