Why Cottong Gloves?

Recommended Posts

Latex gloves are inherently sticky -- it's the nature of the rubber. That makes it harder to

handle the negatives without damaging them (maybe). Cotton gloves are soft and will

slide across the emulsion if you accidentally touch it, rather than binding and potentially

damaging it. The bigger problem is that some brands of latex gloves come with powdered

talc on them to get rid of this stickiness. That talc gets on everything and is about as awful

a thing as you can have in a darkroom.

That said, I've seen more people using unpowdered latex gloves than cotton ones, mostly

because they're easier to find. I don't wear gloves, but I'm finding that it would be nice to

get a few sets of cotton ones so that I don't have to be quite as careful about touching the

film.

I dont like the cotton gloves or the latex gloves. B&H, or is it Adorama I forgot which one, sells some very fine breatheable gloves that feel more like silk than anything. They are great for handling negatives and wont turn your hands into a hot sweaty mess.

Hello Harry,

You have the CAP LW GLOVE LINERS. We do still make the glove liners,

they have a different style number. You can view them online at

www.patagonia.com and type style 47833 into the search box in the upper right

of the screen.

If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know. Have

a great day!

Dear sirs,

A couple of years ago I purchased a pair of gloves that were

adverised in the retailers catalogue as Photography Darkroom gloves. A friend

of mine inquired about these gloves but unfortunately the retailer no

longer sells them. I still have the gloves (RM:51884 CA:4126 STYLE47831FA

CUT8103) are these gloves still available ? Thanks
