Breaks between paragraphs in critiques, use of more than one word as a tag

Recommended Posts

I've previously addressed this stuff in another thread some time ago. Although some helpful comments were offered, I saw no evidence of a response from Admin.

Glenn, can you please address this?

Michael, <br><br> works in manually putting paragraph breaks in critiques, but when I hit enter, no automatic break is introduced. I hope the admins take care of this, like they did in the forums section.

Michael, for the last 6 weeks or so, I've been experiencing long periods of time, approximately 8 hours a day, where I can't post to PN forums, including No Words, due to server error messages. I've heard other people complaining about this but not a whole lot and I'm not sure if it's a widespread problem or limited to just a few of us. Glenn has assured me he's having his tech people look into it. Judging by your concern with line breaks, I'm thinking you may not be experiencing these server errors since at this point I'd be happy to deal with line breaks if I could post when I wanted to. LOL! I'm just curious to find out if that's the case, which will tell me that not everyone is experiencing this and that's why I've heard so little about it in the Site Help forum. Thanks for any info you can give me. I guess I want to know how isolated a problem this may be for me or if it's fairly universal among PN users. Glenn assured me it's not something I can control in any way and it's a problem on their end but hasn't told me what percentage of users it's happening to.

Thanks, Gordon. For the time being, I feel like I'm off the day shift at PN. I can have private conversations and LIKE things, but from about 10-6 during the day, I can't post, and I've tried all the tricks but nothing works. Just yesterday was the first day in quite some time I could post during the day and though the problem was licked. As I was getting to celebrate, it started happening again last night but not as bad. So, who knows? Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. I sensed I had it worse than most since there's been relatively little complaining about it and I figured if others were off-line for so many hours at a time I'd be hearing more about it.

Fred, if I could help, I certainly would. I'm sorry that you are having problems posting, but I have no idea what's responsible for this, much less a fix for it. Shortly after the release of this site, when I first encountered the problem of paragraph breaks, Mike Mancil suggested that I try an approach that Supriyo mentioned above. Bottom line - - it didn't work for me. So here I sit, waiting for good news from Glenn that my issues (and yours and Gordon's) have been resolved. I get the feeling that, if I sit here long enough, snails will position themselves on my head and I will become the next bodhisattva.

Fred, quick question. Do you experience this more when you are trying to upload a photo?

(I occasionally get timeouts when I try and post photos > 1000 pixels to the NW FORUM)

No. I've been experiencing it for the last two weeks no matter what I try and do. Even a one-word post to a Philosophy or Casual forum or a photo post to No Words. My photos are always sized under the 1,000-pixel limit. And I've tried logging off of PN and back on, tried several different browsers and on various wifi networks. Glenn has acknowledged to me personally that it's nothing I'm doing and it's something in the software that the tech people are trying to figure out. Glenn also knows it's become a little better this week. The problem is more intermittent rather than lasting solidly from 10am-6pm. Yesterday, for the first day in quite some time, I was able to post all day with only a few periods where I had to wait for the error messages to stop. I don't know if that's just random luck or a true sign of improvement. Only time will tell.

I mentioned before the exif data seems weird. I think I found the problem. The program (pn) is taking values from exif for aperture value and shutter value which are indeed there but they are meaningless numbers (to me, anyway) What needs to be done is for the program to look for "f number" and "exposure time" in the exif data and use those values. This shouldn't be too hard to change in the code. I don't know if this is the right place to post this. Hope someone sees it.

Right. It's been broken since the curtain lifted on PN2.0, and no effort has been given to it. I would just like to be able to enter the values for these things manually--along with the camera and lens used. Those fields have been there since the beginning--and have never worked. Meanwhile, all of the data I entered previous to this train wreck has been lost...

Unbeknownst to you (and likely the rest of us as well), it was done before it even started. We just post this stuff for our own amusement, and to ventilate frustrations a bit.

I am always hearing about this team of crack coders and developers, working in tandem with a team of testers to weed out the buggers and petty poltergeists. I have become convinced that these teams are either complete fiction, or are comprised of coma patients on ventilators in a gomer ward somewhere...

You decide, based on the evidence! :p
