Morning East Coast people, good day for the rest already awake!
Time flies when you are having fun... and not if you are not. I had no time for Photography this past week, too many meetings and deadlines. But I did manage do to some scanning.
In August I had a chance to do what I wanted to do for along time: dust off my 8x10 LF camera. I took shots of a few friends visiting - was bit rushed, as of course we left it to the last minute, so don't ding me on the imperfect lighting...... Took some time to develop it and even longer to scan, but here is an example (I am still learning, so this is one that was in focus!). Only have one lens for the 8x10 I bought for landscapes, not the ideal portrait lens :)

Calumet 8x10 , Nikkor 240mm at f16 I think 1/60, Metz 45CL flash, Tri-X 320, HC-110 (B)

00Uk40-180265784.jpg.1a907de57ad9948f66417e98add16f21.jpg

The Archibald Fountain, properly called the J.F. Archibald Memorial Fountain, widely regarded as the finest public fountain in Australia, is located in Hyde Park in central Sydney. NSW.

00Uk44-180267684.jpg.c2dc03717dc0b659795a9cbee3e5d704.jpg

I want to start by thanking all those who commented on my picture last week, I respect the photos all of you take so your comments were much appreciated. This week has been really busy, so hope you don't mind, I'm going to post a a picture I took a couple of weeks ago. This is of one of my neighbors who invited me for lunch, but I had to decline since I think it thought I was lunch. Normally the river is cloudly with runoff so you only see their eyes and maybe their head, but it was very clear that day so you got to see its whole body.

00Uk45-180267584.JPG.310a87201ff64c8129edff974cd85035.JPG

Good Morning all. Can't wait to see how the trip around the world unfolds today. Shot this weeks photo last Wednesday afternoon during lunch. I have an arboretum (Morris County Arboretum, in New Jersey) around the corner from where I work and am just discovering its hidden potential as a photo site. As usual I'll stop back later for commenting.

00Uk47-180269684.jpg.99c351778d13d76115e2eae5572ce2d4.jpg

I ended up working since last Friday in a window-less computer room (still there as I post this). By Sunday I was going stir crazy so I took a shot just outside the back door of the building. Resized to 24 x 36", printed on plain roll paper in the CAD plotter, and then hung on the wall over my desk in the computer room - instant 'window to the outside.' This was taken last night...starting to go crazy again and took a break to play with my camera.

Wonderful shots so far. No offense to Toledo, Ohio, but I'd much rather visit Toledo, Spain if I ever get the chance. I'm also thinking a macro lens may be in my future after seeing all the amazing insect pictures posted over the weeks. Great work.

00Uk4D-180271684.JPG.93b61e99e20391e4966145c4eb079a64.JPG

It's a privilege to exhibit among such a great collection. A few that inspired me were Alejandro Held's Pontiac, Dave Greenidge's Aurora, the nice lighting in Aaron Bonnici's portrait and Janne Kaakinen's still life and Uzay Kisi's clever composition/reflection.

WOW! Many beautiful photos already on my favorite day of the week. Missed last week. We were in Williamsburg VA without the internet. Just got back and was downloading photos on our trip home through the mountains of Pennsylvania. This pic really surprised me because we were traveling 65 MPH down the toll road and I took it out of the passenger side window - shutter 1/400, f 5.6 at 47mm with my Nikon D 300, Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. Hubby loved it so printed it on 13 x 19 photo paper and hung it over his desk.

00Uk4Z-180273884.jpg.8967f0b7205268e88e67863f1d1678c2.jpg

My Photo this week is nothing special, I am gearing up for 18 day Europe trip. London, France, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, London. In that order. So I will miss a few Wednesday pics. Bu I will post when I come back. This weeks entry I was out shooting my continueing project to capture a Series "Florida Piers" and There were other photographers there with a few cute models I must say. This is a public beach and these women were not wearing much. But this guy decided it was ok to.....play with his equipment...and the police showed up a few mminutes later. The pier is in the background too.... :)

00Uk4b-180273984.JPG.8fee5fa3bb75a822e5e76ecd9dcc61b7.JPG

Hey everyone, its that time of the week again!

Here's a pic I took last weekend at a local MMA tournament.

It was quite dark and I don't have a very fast lens (18-55mm VR kit lens), so I was forced to set the ISO to 1600 so I could increase the shutter speed. I was quite surprised how well the D5000 copes with noise at this ISO. I would like to get a faster lens for the next event though.

00Uk4i-180275784.JPG.1150e094ea20384498bda100bc1aa198.JPG

There is an old grain mill just a short distance from where I live and next to it stands this tree. Many little children love to swing on it. Long ago a train would come out and pick up it's goods. The train and tracks have been gone for more than 30 years. The mill is going to be torn down, I sure hope that the tree survives.

I post (too many!) dog photos. Here's the woman who breeds many of the furry subjects I've enjoyed so much, holding another six-week-old. Lit with an SB-600 in a shoot-through umbrella high and right, and an SB-800 behind the subjects, camera left, bouncing off a flat round reflector. Both fired via CLS using the camera's pop-up flash. B&W conversion in NX2.

00Uk4w-180278084.thumb.jpg.501f732d4ac6f4525676ba27ef5ef4e1.jpg

Missed last week due to travel - now have tons of images to work up. Many thanks to everyone who commented on my image two weeks ago. My favorites of this week so far are Dave 's aurora, Aaron 's lovely portrait, and Matt 's puppy. This one is from the MCAS Miramar air show on October 4 - the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demo Team. D300 with 80-400/4.5-5.6 VR at 165mm, 1/1600s, f5, ISO 220, +2/3EV exposure compensation.

00Uk57-180279684.jpg.65941fb3abc74005e945ea31904e93c9.jpg

Ken, it's not HDR; it's just the "gritty portrait effect" described in Scott Kelby's Lightroom book. You max out fill light, contrast, clarity, and vibrance, and then dial down the saturation. I tweaked this one a little bit more by also bumping up the blacks a lot for better contrast.
