  1. Sort of posed. Had a half roll unused from another shoot earlier that day - not wanting to waste it I offered to shoot it with/for Cordell.

Since it was a spur of the moment/unplanned shoot & almost 5:30 pm at the time, impending loss of light was also a concern. So we headed outside & I climbed a step ladder and started shooting right there in the rehearsal studio parking lot.

Why is it that those shoots always seem to be the best ones?

  2. First shoot I attempted after nearly getting killed in a motorcycle

accident. In fact, I was still confined to a wheelchair at the time.

I'm telling ya - I've had easier shoots!

Balancing on one foot, leaning on a friend to keep from tipping over

just to snap off a few frames.... then sitting in my chair 10 mins til

the throbbing subsided enough to take a few more........ arghhhhh!

It was by far the longest & slowest 36 exp. roll I've ever shot.

My 2 cents - truly could have been a GREAT shot, but the pose doesnt work. So I hope you wont mind if I offer some really specific (constructive) suggestions for the next try?

You could have had it squarely in the 'coulda been a contender' spot without changing her pose from the neck down. Just have her draw the neck up/out a touch so the line from the clavicle up the neck to the jaw is more smooth & then tip her chin down a tiny bit.

Now, that said, I'd go a bit farther and make a couple subtle changes to the angles she's going for with the arms (keep going for those angular lines though!)

*Left shoulder should have been pulled back & up more square, fingers of left hand pointing towards the camera

*Right arm shouldnt be bent - but gently draped off the chair arm.. more of a diagonal line from her shoulder down across top of the chair arm with her hand trailing off the side

*Have her sit just a TOUCH taller, not *quite* so far forward, so her waist is more accentuated (the dress really is great)

*Then she should be able to cock her face into the light almost as dramatically as in this shot, but without having to twist her neck & pull back quite so unnaturally. Honestly, if you reshot it that way I think you'd wind up with a really knockout shot.

Hopefully you dont get offended, but I can so clearly see 'the fix' in my head that it'd be a shame not to at least *offer* to share it :)

  3. Reacent spec shot....

I was going for a (hopefully) more unexpected angle & crop choice

while trying to lean more toward understated/elegant/sophisticated (as

opposed to extreme or edgy type shot). What do you think - does it

work? Any suggestions for the next one?

Like the shot for the most part, but I agree with the previous poster with regard to the model looking tense. My approach to essentially the same pose: Model looking slightly down/toward my right. I'd also pay attention to softening her rt. hand/arm - relaxing the wrist/hand.
  4. Not sure why that post was even necessary, i mean really, I have lots of large images posted to photonet, so i'm obviously not 'scared of the evil internet' as you so patronizingly put it.

I just happened to not have the master scans handy to upload when I managed to have a few minutes to clear out my photonet folders abd uoload new stuff. Since I only had what I had jpg'd for use on another small website, thats what went up here too.
