  1. the digita l camer will not duplicate the manipulated photos adams produced, but photoshop will
  2. as it has been put out on photrio, the filters in a dichroic colourhead do not fade.. something about the TYPE of material, adn the way they work in relation to the light flow. on photrio they say that the filters like ilford sell are only good for 5 years of usage, and by usage they mean "i make prints every week or day". Some claimed to have worked in college darkrooms and had the filters go useless in under two years
  3. AF-s micro 85mm af-p 70-300 1:4.5-5.6E vr ed manual ring just spins no matter what. the micro the infinity does stop about on the far left end of the infinity loop, but the lens elements DO go out of focus if you keep moving it.
  4. just go t done reading a thread where someone asked a simple question and was ripped apart because he couldnt provide "relevant source data" from sources "trusted by the naysayer members" despite them posting an article from Kodak that proved what the OP was saying
  5. places on amazon selling a single roll of portra 100 in 36 exposure 35mm for 28$
  6. "Oh my dear you are looking so much better today." "We're all watching your progress and hoping the best for you."
  7. look up emulator software, COULD be able to do a partition on the ol hard drive or SSD put win98 on it,, if you can find a copy of win 98
  8. WHy does nikon use a manual focus ring that doesnt stop when the focus scale stops?
  9. Its not really a time to experiment.. Its time to see how old they are.. not all filters last... ie more you use them the more they fade out. Dichroic color heads on the other hand dont fade. Thats why i splurged on got a used dichro head.. figure out who made the filters and try to get ahold of them. Best rule of thumb is that if the company no longer exists, the filters are most likely NOT going to be good for use. Ilford sells a decently good set, not cheap, but not expensive, but its going to work 100% with the instructions for ilford paper
  10. It came today, have only had a few minutes with it and a couple things do point out... Its not a long range lens by any means.. so far focusing stops at about 25'.. im only needing 5 feet from it with wide open, its sharp... it likes higher iso,, even at 22000 and camera says redzone.. it looks as sharp as 400iso film yet even when the settings are bad, there is minimal quality loss between using AE and manual.. f/3.5 at 1/60 looks as sharp as f/9 at 1/60
  11. From what i can say from my experience trying to get reloadable cassettes is that the current market stuff is well plastic crap,, if it lasts for 2 reloads your doing good. SO i stockpiled all the vintage ones i can find. There is a mythical company called Fomapan that is somehow getting reloadable film cassettes to sell on their website.. They only sell the cassettes to europe and scandinavia. They are supposed to be the original 1970s kodak/ilford pop-top style.
  12. An excellent thing to discuss, what are YOUR idea of personal insults? On all of the photo forums i have been on, simply disagreeing with a moderator or one of their sock puppet accounts over say the benefits of using a CPL versus photoshop to remove a reflection in a window is a "egregious personal insult with mandatory removal of a persons profile" On one forum, there is a fellow whos claim to faim is 1200 instagram cellphone photos of his lunches.. anyone who disagrees with im on ANYTHING gets a profile removed. Even if you are discussing a D500 and its usefulness for macro work,, this dude buts in says "get an iphone" you disagree... you loose a profile account. I have been on other photo forums where a person can loose there account for disagreeing with what a popular member says in a reply, say somedude51 asks about a DSLR rig under 800$... popular person starts demanding that somedude51 gets a 6,000$ mirrorless body, and about 5,000$ in lenses,, and YOU point out a few places somedude51 can actually meet his personal requirements,,, and YOUR profile is deleted.. Im on/off a video game site, the owners of the forum delete profiles of PAYING CUSTOMERS... each part of the game costs 70$ full price... and if you even mention how a certain countries aircraft are nerfed when the new release VIP aircraft fail to perform.
  13. You can do wonders with used equipment if you are able to weed out the junk... or buy factory refurbished cameras. But the biggest hurdle is that MOST of the most affordable and highest quality on the used market are not going to considered "desirable" or "professional" enough to purchase based on camera reviews stating a "true photographer of any skill only buys mirrorless", and trust me, that hurts sales more then one can consider. Especially since some generations of cameras only changed the body style.. looking at nikon....
  14. can get the camera used body only from actual retailers for 3-400$, from ebay sellers in unspecified used condition may not work for 800$ without lenses, or even at retail price of 600$ with lenses on ebay.. or buy brand new at an actual retailer... never thought a 16mp sensor could do 4k
  15. After alot of reading i ended up with the nikon af-s DX 85mm.
  16. Just what can it actually do though with Nikon Raw formats? And their website sucks, good at showing me little video clips but no actual data.
  17. The Capture NX-D is supposed to work with my cameras NEF raw file format, nikon says so. Yet it cannot open them as RAW format. Nor does it let me crop a photo without saving it to an unfindable directory and not letting me do anything with it.. The nikon transfer 2 software just as bad. it only transfers RAW files.. nothing else IrfanView actually lets you do basic stuff like cropping and resizing but it takes every photo hostage regardless of wether you make it the default viewer or NOT.
  18. I once read the results of a study that declared 70% of people TEACHING a subject wether it be elementary school highschool or in a college, would not meet basic requirements to actually pass the classes they teach if the teachers handbook with all the answers was taken away. I have seen it myself over the years. Far to many COLLEGE courses I have had to take that were literally taught by people who had a teaching certificate in my state, but somehow ended up being the high school shop teacher teaching a bachelor degree architecture course on HVAC systems and fire protection systems.
  19. All film has gone up, my delightful pro image 100, has doubled to the same price as portra 35mm thats a tad much for my taste, even if it is a nice film. I just have to start using up what i have left, im close to the experation date on my last two boxes.
  20. Cant see the irony and fault in the classic "buy these classes from me and youll become a successful wealthy professional photographer", that the classes are the only real reason said successful, wealthy, professional photographer can pay the light bill and make they can get canned cat food and crackers?
  21. LOL , then explain why most of your camera company brand ambassadors make 80% or more of their yearly income from selling educational courses online instead of doing actual photo shooting for pay?
  22. All that can be assumed is that the camera being used doesnt do reflective surfaces well, the focus method was insufficient, the sensor was beyond its useful capabilities in terms of resolution and ISO noise. But otherwise the idea is not a bad one, but it requries changes.. and perhaps most of all a change in light
  23. Photography is FUN. Now, that you apparently want to learn it, there are pitfalls that must truly be understood. The industry creating all of these new products to buy only has one interest in mind. Make money by making you think that you need to buy things everytime a new product is released. No one wants to help you break into photography as anything except "i take pictures for fun". Yeah, the photography market is over saturated. The supply exceeds the demand. The only thing that established people with photographic business's want from a new person who wants to learn photography is to SELL you things that always keep you "learning" and leave you behind. Most "professional photographers" are making most of their income from selling you educational videos online, and offering 20$ a month mentoring programs like Edelman does. They have no interest in making you a competitor. Only in making you a customer. There may be "subspecialties" in photography, but all skills are the same Its easy to go and find 20 different courses for sale at 90$ each about product photography, budiour photography, glamour photography, and standard portrait photography. The sad part is the ONLY one that has actual specific techniques is PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY. Everything else uses the same basic photographic theory, and please ask yourself this. How can there be actual differences/requirements to a shoot simply because there is a difference in clothing? How to set up your studio for portrait photography look at those studio set up photos, tell yourself why would you need a different skill set to take those photos simply because in one "sub field" the model is wearing a corset and thigh high stockings, and in the other a swim suit, and in another pants and t shirt? Nothing changes except MIND SET
  24. You illustrate the massive trend in recent years to turn everything politically correct. The fact that people witha political mindset took offense at your photograph based upon their political theology, and then made you APOLOGIZE and feel sorry for taking it shows how it works. There are forums for photography that even hinting that political "equalization", ie giving a photo job to someone simply for not being a white heterosexual male is WRONG unless the person who recieved the job has better photography skills will get your entire account deleted, every thread, mention, reply made to what you said or that someone made to something you posted/threaded is just GONE.
  25. This is an illustration of the politicalization of photography with everything else.. the idea that someone with a hairbrained grasp upon reality can brow beat another into surrendering is attrocious. To illustrate, consider a schizophrenic person who goes on a tirade against photos of rabbits for being evil, demented, and speciest because they dont like a photograph you took of your dog chewing on a bunny slipper. That is what you are doing when you are creating laws, morals, and social thought on photos. The LAW is clear on what consittues a crime in relation to photographs of nude and semi nude children. Very clear to all that if any of US walked into a police department and the found a sally mann style photo on our phone, wed be playing "wife" in state prison for 10 to 20 years.
