  1. I was hoping for info on my dads old German camera but not all of my questions were answered here so I did what any sensible photographer would do . I just bought more of them until I figured it out.... Got some help from someone on the Zeiss facebook page as well then it ran away with me.... Got 4 of the same camera and 1 later version as well. Plus filters and additional lenses and leather cases and manuals ect. ect. But I know how to use them now and they all work even though I got them "as is" and "untested." So in a way the answer is yes to your question , in a round about way. The lack of info made me hungry for more kit ..... I will search the site to get opinions on other vintage lenses as well But I wouldn't say that I would be influenced to by any new gear.
  2. In 30 years I have never known anyone to think images get "stale " If its boring now it was probably boring to begin with. So I wonder if the same people who dont like old photos have any hanging on their walls at home.... If they do , do they replace them once a year to keep them fresh? In that case maybe I should go back to all of the social media images that I have ever liked and unlike the ones more then a year old... Or maybe my likes are stale now too?
  3. So my glasses are like +275 or something but I think the prescription is not perfect as I feel like I can never quite focus properly. And my eyes get tired wearing my glasses all day.... But that is just the back story to my question(s) So with modern cameras and built in diopter dials, I turn it almost as far as it will go to get the image sharp in the viewfinder.... Sometimes with glasses on , sometimes without, depending on Nikon or Canon. the range of the correction seems different?? But with my film cameras I wanted a correction diopter for my nikons . Not knowing the number system I decided to go to B&H to try them on for size..... I was expecting a +2 or something.... Turns out a +1 without glasses makes the viewfinder so so so sharp.... I havent been able to see that good in a long time.... So how do the numbers correlate to eye glasses?? And why arn't the modern dial diopters as good???
  4. What constitutes a dead thread? A Week A Year. If its not on the first page anymore??? Just so I know for future reference in case I stop enjoying resurrecting old threads ;)
  5. Just a fun little glimps into the young and prolific photographer Milton Greene. Ill have to study more about him. Did his career die with Marilyn....? His photo wall of his work is pretty amazing
  6. HCB was the first photographer that I can remember having been taught about in photo school. He was alway brought up in discussions of composition . We have to remember that today we have millions of photographers all doing pretty much the same thing. In his day , It was all new. Even the simplest artistic photography technic was a giant leap forward and the best of the best are held high by those who have an appreciation for the roots of our craft. Personally I hold Edward Weston and Helmut Newton a bit higher then the rest but thats just me ;)
  7. Late to this discussion .... Since I am one or (maybe the one) resurrecting old threads, I figured I would say something. I just joined this site a month ago so every thread is new to me. I like seeing what people have spent time posting. It also give me a chance to see who is on this site. When I see photos I really like (or really dont like) I take the time to look at the posters portfolio and posts... That way I see who I am sitting with in my cyber studio/lecture hall with..... Ive been shooting for 30 years and have a lot of photos to share. I could start 20 new threads every day. But that is not what it is about for me. I see a photo I want to share- I search for a suitable theme and if I like the photos in the found thread(s) then I post my photo. For me the older the thread the better, in my mind, it will be new to others as well. i.e. if a thread is from 2015 , how many people joined since 2015 and never saw that thread before. And if you did see it four years ago, it shouldn't be painful to see it again. (I dont pick threads that contain substandard , non interesting photos... Actually I have not found any completely substandard threads, showing the great aptitude of the folks on this forum . Im not seeking "likes" Im just opening up my images for people to see and enjoying seeing what others have graciously decided to share with us.
