  1. Yep, Cape May is awesome as is Chincoteague. It's the lesser know places that members could share. In Florida have you been to Little Estero Lagoon? It's just South of Fort Myers Beach. If this thread takes off I'll post where to go.
  2. Conowingo Dam in Maryland. A Hydro Electric Dam across the Susquehanna River, in Fall and Winter it attracts hundreds of Bald Eagles which feed on fish stunned when the station is generating electricity.
  3. Heres an idea I have for sharing lesser known places for Nature photography. We all know about the US National Parks like Yellowstone, Acadia, Zion etc but how many people known about places like Barnegat Lighthouse in New Jersey or Conowingo Dam in Maryland? Both are East Coast locations in easy traveling distance for many. How about posting your lesser known locations.
  4. Hummingbird Clearwing Moth on Knapweed.
  5. Nice canal towpath. Where was it if you don’t mind me asking.
  6. Not a classic fall for colors but here and there you can find some.
  7. I’ve recently got back into film with a Hasselblad 503CX. I’m using mostly Fuji Velvia 100 transparency film which I have no question intention of trying to develop myself. I’ve been getting the film developed and low quality scanned by The Darkroom. As I improve I’m getting a few that I’d like to get scanned in high quality so I can correct any problems and print on my Canon 13x19 printer. Can I get some recommendations for alternative processing and high quality scanning companies please.
  8. I'm terrified of snakes:confused: If I come across one unexpectedly I scream like a little girl. It's all my Mothers fault, I wanted a Grass Snake when I was a kid but my Mother being terrified of snakes wouldn't let me have one. She obviously passed on her phobia to me. If I remember next week I'll post a Timber Rattlesnake picture.
  9. Yep, it was about 6ft at least. It was just sunbathing in the middle of the track up the mountain. Not many people use it but I shooed it off the road when I’d taken the shots so it didn’t get run over.
  10. Canada Geese and Sandhill Cranes without a doubt. Can I suggest that anyone requesting an ID in future include the location as it can help narrow down the species considerably.
  11. Bee Sp. on Mountain Mint from this summer.
  12. I nearly always use AFC. On Nikon cameras there is also the AF Area Mode and I usually use 9 point Dynamic Area Mode.
  13. Ducks and Geese take off and land into the wind. Remembering this can help with pre-positioning yourself ready for when they do take off.
  14. Exaggerated nudes? Umm...... if I was to be in the same room as a naked model my wife would kill me first then divorce me.
  15. I tried a similar thing a few years, I thought at the time that it had potential but I've not got around to trying it again.
  16. Nikon D850 with a Sigma 135mm f/1.8 0.5s @f/7.1 ISO64 I probably would have used a RRS tripod with BH-55 ballhead. I used the built in Focus Shift feature but I don't remember exactly what settings I used, sorry. The 45 shots were stacked using Helicon Focus and I believe I used the Method B with a Radius of 8 and a Smoothing of 4. For those interested, Focus Shift using the more recent Nikon's is really easy. You focus on the nearest point and specify how many shots you want to take (max 300) and the Focus Step Width which is how much the lens automatically shifts for each image. Press the go and wait for it to finish, if it reaches Infinity before the number of images is reached it stops automatically. Heres a useful tutorial on the Focus Shift feature. D850 TIPS - Focus Stacking (Focus Shift Photography) | Technical Solutions | Nikon Professional Services Focus Stacking can be achieved with manual lenses by physical altering the focus between shots, for this you need a really solid mount and ideally a cable release, Heres an early attempt from a few years ago using a manual lens. This was only 13 shots and again stacking in Helicon Focus. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qdj83G5VTyk/U_PPTa6ufSI/AAAAAAAABCs/r68xXJkZgeo/s1600/Rain%2BLily%2B2.jpg
  17. Sorry if I gave the impression that I grew it from seed. My green fingers only go so far. A friend who is much more patient grew them from wild seeds and donated a whole load of pink and white ones to the Manada Conservancy for their spring wild flower sale.
