  1. 'Really like this shot, Seamus. 'love the framing, really love the expression, the gray-tone detail & the hard focus.

The crop suggestion might be nice. 'A lot of things are right - though I've not tried semi macro w/ a 300mm. I wish I could see more detail in the body, but as is - its quite nice.

    Urban bridge

'Nice shot. Between the DOF - soft foreground, the handrail & overhead structure, the eye is given standing room only in guidance down the path. Something about the soft foreground makes for more ambiguity/mystery even with a plain endpoint. 'Good eye - for seeing it.
  4. I'm surprised there are no other comments. Its a superb shot w/ layers of interest. Foreground shadow makes the sunlit stack stand out more than usual, background mountains appearing soft does the same. Its a beautiful landscape shot.

Thank you for looking & all comments appreciated.
  6. Wow. Powerful composition & treatment. It would look at home, hanging as a fine painting in a museum. Post treatment leaning almost pastel - giving the look of a fine painting.

    Toronto Skyline

And you certainly chose a fine shot to have critiqued. Its handsome. The use of positive & negative space - the lighted water, framed by the shadowed opposite shore & the docks guides the eye further down the waterway to a nice sunset skyline. Light & color look natural - not overbaked. I should be so lucky. Bravo.

    Circulation

Wonderfully done. I love reflection - water, glass. I agree w/ the prev. poster - the gratings seem to add, rather than distract. You saved a fine image from what looks like a lovely sunset.

Fabulous portrait, Bjorn. Certainly the subject is striking, but you also got the expression & kept distractions out, kept detail in. 'Nicely done.

'As reliable the tides or sunrise. Mehmet does a portrait (and most any other genre) - and its exquisite.

    Portrait

Great expression by the subject. Highlight & detail on the face is nice. Light on the other elements in the foreground are subdued enough not to distract. I have a weakness for a hard focus portrait. You've done a nice one.

Siamak, I have not taken the time for comments before, but your work is consistently excellent. It is very rare I would notice anything to suggest changing. This one is lovely, with the obscured reflection as a beautiful complement. It furthers the interest in the subject. Beautifully executed.

Thank You both. Its been an education - in terms of forestry & keeping the forest less vulnerable to fires - and in the photography.  Thank you so much for looking!

Local logger drops a 50" dia Grand Fir, shown limbing & cutting to length. The line trailing him is a tape measure to mark & cut lengths required by each mill. He has more engergy & strength than an army of 5 year olds - almost running as he moves up the trunk - cutting limbs flush with the trunk. The Grand Fir is very heavy in water weight. The monster loading crane could not lift. It tilted the loader onto the very front edge of the treads while dragging the giant into place for limbing & cutting to length.
  16. I'm on the B&W side, though color is nice. 'Particularly like the processing - not exaggerated contrast. The mood is softened by the B&W, but the elements are lively. 'Really like the result.

Another lovely portrait, John. Lighting seems perfect, expression comes through, framing is perfect, color is natural

'Gotta be the strongest portrait I've see from your work this last year. 'Really wonderfully done.

    Portrait-96

Wow. Its incredible how consistently your portraits have great impact. Its inspiring. 'Sure glad you post your work here.
  20. Gorgeous portrait. My preferences differ - preferring hard focus & high detail, but that's just a preference. Most think softening a portrait is better. The Orange beads by the ears and the smaller plastic beads come on a bit strong for me (saturation?) - like less would be more. As is, its wonderful & a fine piece of work.
  21. 'Not dull or dark. Strong mood is created - and is quite pleasant. May all your shots be this nice.
  22. 'Best "road" shot I've seen in a while. Framing & the way you have the road entry from the side, then almost filling the frame, then snaking back is a treat. All the motoring enthusiasts are probably drooling. Nicely done.

    Fawn B-W

'Works for me. Highlights are brilliant where they should be, detail of neck fur is crisp & delineated, facial graytones are all there with grace. 'Wish all my B&W turned out this well.
