Thanks to everyone for taking the time to look and comment. Peter. I thought it fairly dramatic as well and was happy to hear that you thought the treatment worked. I struggle with that a bit and the feedback is appreciated. David. It is pretty aggressive and that was intentional. If you think it is powerful then it works for me. Raymond. Gritty, what an apt adjective. It does feel gritty. Teddy. Pleased that you liked the light and shadows (photography reduced to its essential elements). Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts. All the best. Dana...

Raymond. Loving this series and it is interesting to compare to some of the more grainy BW that you are posting as well. I think one of the most appealing aspects of this series is the spot-on tonal range. I also like that you managed to light these without much of a background shadow. I think this highlights the subject and form really well. Great work. Dana...

Many thanks to everyone that took the time to comment. Drew. !!!! back at you. Glad that you liked it and thanks for the encouragement. Jon. The pose is all her. I just try and get the timing and placement right. I am pleased that you found it dynamic. Rosario. I am please that you thought it artistic. Like I said to Jon, the pose is all her and I try to get my part right (lighting, comp, timing). So it is truly a collaboration. Andrew. Glad that you liked it. The lighting is pretty simple but I think effective without too much fuss. joao. Indeed! A good way to describe it. Raymond. Now and then, I get my part right. It is good that others see it and like it. Fred G. I always appreciate your detailed and thoughtful comments and suggestions (the praise as well as the criticism). I struggle with cropping/composition a lot. I am a big fan of negative space if it works with the concept. In this case, I was seeing her moving up and out of the frame and wanted to leave enough "space" to express this feeling. The feet were intentional as well. I wanted to give her a feeling of "groundlessness" (not a word, I know) and felt like having her placed on a surface would ruin this effect. I find it interesting and insightful that you think the pose calls attention to the subject (her) and that the framing/composition calls attention to the photo. This would suggest that you find the composition contrived and that it brings the viewer out of the experience. I will have to think about this more critically because I usually want the viewer to forget it is a photo and experience it more as a moment (does this make sense???). However, it is an interesting idea that composition can call attention to itself and that might be very useful indeed. Any other thoughts on this subject that you might have would be worth a chat. David. Glad that you liked it and considering all of my "experiments", easy is good. John. I will take an elegant from you any day, any time. I really appreciate it. Teddy. Glad that you loved it. Pretty cool coming from you. Thanks again to everyone for their time and consideration. All the best. Dana...

Tony. I am starting to run out of compliments. One of the best BW abstracts that I have seen. It may indeed be industrial but, if not for the title, it seems organic to me. The real bottom line is that it is pattern and tone and the meaning will come from whatever the viewer brings to it. Wonderful work. Dana...

stephanie c. The composition is simple but effective. I like the isolation of the subject. I also like the exposure and tonal range because it enhances the somber nature of the photograph. I took me a while to see that you have two horizons. The obvious one between the sky and water and the more subtle one between the beach and water (really outstanding). Finally, I like the texture of the beach and the vignette that you have leads to the subject. Outstanding work. Dana...

John. I will echo Ricardo. It is a unique story and you managed to be in the right place and time to capture it. The pay phone lends a graphic element to the composition that I think is crucial to set the scene and without it I think it wouldn't be as interesting. Really well seen and executed. All the best.
