    Bridge #2

          39
This is extremely well seen and executed. The composition is beautiful...I do like the bridge composed asymetrically...the light and colors are near perfect...I'm not sure that I can account for the quantity of light under the bridge. Something about how well lit it is under the bridge doesn't seem natural. I would expect it to be significantly darker on the under-side. Still...a very compelling image. Nice job!
  1. There are so many images of breasts on this site. 95% of them are horrible as far as photography is concerned. They all get rave reviews because of the subject matter (breasts) rather than the photography. This one is quite different. Some thought went into the composition. You have included a repetition of shape...the curve of the chin mimmicks the curve of the breast. The negative space in the concave area of the sternum also implies that same graceful curve. This repetition of shape is very effective in photographs. You have also managed to play with color in a very effective manner. The tone of the lips and the nipple play off of each other. They are the only two spots of that have the richer coloration/tone which serves the purpose of drawing the eye to them. Finally, the fact that you composed this image in a strong diagonal (from top left to bottom right) makes it much more dynamic than any other choice of composition. The straight line of her arm coming up from the corner and the straight line of cheek coming down from the top left corner provide a wonderful juxtaposition to the curves. ( Which serves to further emaphasize the curves.) Finally the warm monochome tonality of the image really works beautifully. I'd have to say that this is exquisitely executed. (I rarely take the time to comment on nudes...this one is exceptional.)
  2. Very well seen and executed! The beautiful curves of the two larger bubbles balance well with the diagonal pattern created by the smaller bubbles. The negative space and its tonality perfectly balances the composition. This is certainly among the best bubble shots that I have seen. I really like the warm tone of the image as well. Very nice!

This is excellent. The shallow depth of field coupled with the shoe laces "flying" gives you the illusion of motion. The angle of the shoe and the leg combine to add some dynamic tension to the image. The seamless backdrop is nicely gradated and of an appropriate tone not to call attention to itself.

The only thing that bothers me is something about the leg. It somehow doesn't seem to be an appropriate size (girth) ...it seems too thick to actually belong to a little girl who would be wearing those shoes and that dress. Was this shot with a live model or a maniquin? Just curious. Nice Job! I could easily see this as a great POW discussion some day.

I really like this rendition of the tired old cliche. It is just different enough to hold my attention. You composition is excellent and the color is not too blue in my opinion. I have seen blues like that when using Velvia. Nice Job!

The boulder in my opinion makes the shot. It would be pretty ordinary without it.

The image is quite nicely composed and the soft warm light is beautiful on the landscape.

The composition is excellent...and I really like the softness of the water with the long exposure. I'm not sure if I am seeing it right or not, but the horizon line looks slightly off kilter. (It looks like it is slanting downwards from right to left.) I really like the image. I think you did a great job on it.

As is,... I think it works pretty well. I suspect that it would have been an even more dynamic composition if the main stem running across the center horizontally were composed to be a diagonal. Strong diagonal lines in a composition are very dynamic as compared to either horizontal or vertical. Overall, it is a pleasing image.

  3. This would have been beautiful and unique with more depth of field. If the Koy was in focus as well as the background it would have been something special. As it is....the composition is nice but the shallow depth of field is just too distracting to me.

  4. The light is nice and soft, the colors are believable (not oversaturated like 90% of the images posted to this site) the animal is beautifully framed in the opening in the foliage. Iagree with the 1st comment....I wish you had slid over a step to your left and created just a bit more space between his head and the brush. Nice job!

Mario says "Image captures what this girl is all about. Is this not the whole point of photography? To capture the subject the way photograper is experiencing it?"

To answer your question...no this is not what photography is all about...Photography is about creating an illusion of perfection. When you order a Big Mac...does it look like the duratrans on the menu board or like the billboard you just passed on the highway? NO! It doesn't look nearly as perfect.

If you have ever seen a Supermodel or a hollywood starlet in person in the midst of their everyday life...you can't even recognize them as the same perfect woman that you saw on the magazine cover or in the movies.

So, photography is about creating illusions of perfection. And this image is far from perfect. Entertaining? Yes! Well concieved and designed? Yes! Attractive Model? Yes! A perfect photograph which gives the illusion of perfection? Far from it!

The pose is quite nice. I agree about needing more light on her face. (a reflector could have helped) Also, ....the "rain" is only coming down on the left side of the picture. It would be more believable if the water was coming down all around her. As unfortunate as it may seem, ...after reading through the critiques, ...I almost feel like I should apologize for commenting on the photograph instead of commenting on the model.

Really nice! The contrast of the rough gnarled hands, and the tender, loving touch that is occurring really makes this one stand out from other similar shots I have seen. The peaceful/content/comfortable expression on the little ones face is amazing. I see that look in my 6 year old daughter sometimes when I am holding her.

The only thing I can say that might have improved the shot is I'd like to see the entire hand instead of cropping at the fingertips. Irregardless, this is certainly a commendable photograph.

This one is very well done. The composition is effective, the colors are good and believable, your timing was perfect. The only thing that bothers me at all is that the mother birds head seems just a touch soft. In spite of that, The photo still works quite well...you should definitely be proud of this one!

The behavior itself is quite interesting. The composition is however a bit static. The eye is too close to the center of the frame for my tastes. I am distracted by the twig and the leaf in the foreground ...being a wildlife photog myself I do understand how difficult it is to get this type of shot without the distracting elements. The blue color (I assume it is a tag ...meaning the bird is either captive or part of a study) just doesn't fit in with all of the other tones/colors in the photo. It continues to pull my eye away from the eye and the beak carrying its prize. I'm not one for cropping normally, (...I compose everything in camera) but I think this could be a stronger image as a very tight crop around the birds' head. Nonetheless, an interesting behavioral shot.

I've seen/worked with a number of trained cats. You can pretty much train them to do anything you want them to do. I've seen them climb trees 15-20 feet up and jump out of the tree on command. I've seen cats that were trained to walk a tight-rope 25 feet up in the air on command, I've also seeen cats use the toilet...I could go on and on. Cats are very trainable.
  5. This series really stands out from the rest of your work. The images are very compelling and very well executed. Your composition is exquisite...the tonal range in quite nice. I generally try to give a constructive comment that would make some suggestion that might possibly enhance the image or at least provide an alternative ...with this image I am at a loss for that suggestion. I don't think it could be improved. You have certainly created a memorable image.

I do have a couple of questions (I'm developing more interest in traditional B&W lately) ...what type of film? ... processed in what chemistry? is the scan from a print or from the neg? It's an amazing image.

By the way, where is the Salton Sea?
