rjacksonphoto 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Foreboding with a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. I'm curious as to the technique. Link to comment
troy_hamon 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Very dark, which in this case I find intriguing rather than bothersome. A very mysterious look. Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Very striking and, for me at least, eerie image. It definitely captured my attention. Well done! Link to comment
j._scott_schrader 0 Posted March 1, 2004 This series really stands out from the rest of your work. The images are very compelling and very well executed. Your composition is exquisite...the tonal range in quite nice. I generally try to give a constructive comment that would make some suggestion that might possibly enhance the image or at least provide an alternative ...with this image I am at a loss for that suggestion. I don't think it could be improved. You have certainly created a memorable image. I do have a couple of questions (I'm developing more interest in traditional B&W lately) ...what type of film? ... processed in what chemistry? is the scan from a print or from the neg? It's an amazing image. By the way, where is the Salton Sea? Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 1, 2004 Great mood here. Nice, dark tones fits the subject. Link to comment
brian_perry 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Scott, The Salton Sea is in california (its actually the largest body of water in the state and probably the least known) also i shot these on tmax 100 and developed it in hc110 Link to comment
j._scott_schrader 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Thanks Brian! Any filtration used? Again, ... it is a spectacular image! Link to comment
brian_perry 0 Posted March 2, 2004 scott, There was a red 25 used when i shot it normally i'd use a polarizer but this shot didn't need it. Then i scanned it on a microtek scanner (hense that stuff that looks like grain but is really noise). In photoshop I did manipulations using curves and masks. Which is the equilivant of dodging/burning and toning. Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted March 2, 2004 Re the clouds.. the distant ones above the village are interesting, look like IFOs, see andyettheyfly.com...but the bright gap just above the whisky still does not balance well with the pix, nor does it give you a contrast between the darrrrk still and a lighter sky.. Clouds move pretty fast. Maybe a few minutes wait would have rewarded u with a lighter spot right behind the main subject. Otherwise great Hassy shot.. Link to comment
