nice pressure plate

this really is a powerful image. To a large extent due to what the twin towers represent post 911 but still very well done.

I have to say the title threw me off. I'm familiar with St Augustine grass, and nothing could make a less interesting photograph. But wow when I opened the photo I was very surprised. I grew up seeing these tiny flowers in my parents' yard every year and never noticed any beauty in them. great shot.

the coloration is nice, but the composition is great too. what's over the hill? i just want to walk into this place you've photographed.
-
very very nice. is she single? >> ;)

what jill said

nathan--again, use shallow depth of field to set the subject apart from its surroundings. not a bad shot--poignant--but def. not the best in your portfolio.
-
what are the little wires coming from the chin down to the torso? otherwise another hit.
-
love it...again, tone looks to red on my monitor, may be our monitors are off. do my pictures look blue?

this is sort of what i have in mind...color tweaked and i artificially blurred the woman in front. i also played with the cropping but i found that with the (simulated) shallower DOF i could not improve the composition with cropping. hope this helps, nathan. any other comments on this?
-
nice snap, but i think it could be better. i think the use of shallower depth of field would have focused the image more on the subject, which is the bride. the woman in the foreground is fine but she should not be in such clear focus. I think also the composition is slightly unbalanced. it wants to fall over left.
also on my monitor at least the toning is too red, you might play with that some. i like the picture though. keep shooting.

i too am curious about the crop. can we see more of the original image? or was it shot this way? otherwise, extremely nice lighting, expression, and pose.

Hey Gil, excellent shot. Are you from Birmingham? If so there would probably be a few scenes in my portfolio you'd recognize.

Very well executed!

Very nice.

Aaron--very, very nice photograph. You've gotten me to look at the rest of your portfolio. I'd like to know what kind of film you used, though. :(
-
Yes. Nice photo, but you should have used a shallower depth of field to isolate your subject from the background.

i love to photograph aircraft also so I know how hard it is to get a good shot and a good vantage point. the lighting here is dull, and you need a longer lens and/or better vantage point. see my color folder for one good and one could-have-been. and keep shooting.

This is a beautiful picture. Yes, the shadow is a little dark, but I agree that it's ok. I am no pro, but I would not have used fill flash in this circumstance! Or if so at a 1:4 or 1:8 ratio or so and off-camera. A reflector on the left side of the face would have been enough to bring the shadow tone up a little bit. But alas, you can always pick a photo apart after you've taken it. Very nice job, lovely subject, I'm sure your mom loved it.

try taking the picture at a different time of day or even a different season. you need more oblique lighting on the statues and flag, and a darker sky. i also agree with all of the other comments, except i fear that on-camera fill flash will create very flat and uninteresting lighting on the statues. do try b/w film! keep shooting, your ratings on this picture are not that bad. i was surprised at first how hard it is to break into >5 territory. now i am grateful that not every good photo gets a 9 or 10.

simply breathtaking.

this is a better picture than i've ever taken, and i love it. why. (1) proves everybody should have a fast 50mm in their arsenal at all times (I don't shame on me) (2) i love the shallow DOF, that really makes her face "pop" to life (3) your lighting is wonderful. looks like there is some overhead light, and is she looking into a speedlight below, with maybe -1 stop on the flash? since i also shoot a F/N80, i'd like to know more about how you made this image. wonderful.
