    Castle

    Hi Gregory

Thanks for your comment. This is Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight. I have to admit to boosting the saturation a bit. It was a miserably cold and gloomy day.

Excellent capture. I guess the old lady is a music lover as she appears to be searching for some change. I'm sure I would pause and listen for a while. Nicely cropped and the composition ensures that my eyes keep moving in a circle around the three subjects inside the picture.

PS thanks for your kind remarks on my amateur efforts.

I agree the picture jumps out of the forum. Personally I think the legs are fine. The pose is very striking and the portrait crop catches the attention.

Very nice. The view point is well chosen and the saturation adds impact. The placement of the three main rocks is interesting.

Excellent. My only additional wish would to be to draw back a pace and see more of the context. Nicely processed as well.

My instinct has always been to wait for people to move out of the way

before I take a shot however I'm wondering if this is such a good

policy in all cases. What do you think?

Sorry forgot one step. After you've changed the blending mode of the new layer to overlay, fill the layer with 50% Grey.

The main advantage of this method is that it is non-destructive. You just make all your adjustments using either black or white brushes. 10% opacity will give you a subtle adjustment and you can just paint over it again if you need more.

Create a new layer. Change blending mode to overlay. Select white. Select Paintbrush. Change paintbrush opacity to 10%. Paint over.

Choosing black instead of white results in darkening.

    Regards Bill

  1. Nice image. It works well for me as a contrast between the cold of a windy northern evening and the potential warmth locked up in the building for the the night.

Also I much admire the rest of your portfolio
