  1. I Like it. Excellent example of when natural lighting really works in a photo. Having been on many trains in Europe, it evokes memories.

I also like what is outside the windows, it shows movement, however I would crop quite a bit off the top to emphasize the subject.

    Nicely done!

  2. HI Barry - thx for the comment.

Barely any cropping believe it or not. I framed it this way when I took the pic. Just a small amount off the right hand side, and some of the bottom.

I should have put a black frame around it, now that I see it on photo.net's white page, it needs it.

    Bob.

  3. I like the texture and geometry of this shot. This is an

abandoned "swing bridge" on a river in Oregon. I took this while

    passing in a boat.

Anyone else think it has anything going for it?

    Thanks - Bob.

For me, the white post or piling inexorably draws the eye to its unflattering self. It is square in the middle of the image, the top of it lines up with the waterline. Too much going on. Ruins the shot for me.

Perhaps moving to your left, and getting one empty chair and table, with that beautiful background could create something more interesting.

    Keep shooting.

Pretty awesome for a first time experience. The rope itself looks great - what a beautiful female.

In your comments on another photo in this album you said this was a first for both of you.

What did she say about the experience?

    You lookin at me?

I really want to thank you one and all for taking the time to comment and rate.

I personally didn't think that much of it, I mainly was interested because it was just "some old bird sittin on a branch" shot.

I guess what I can learn from this is that you can't get a lucky shot if you aren't out there shooting!

Cropping it to eliminate Mr. Froggy doesnt' really take away from the shot.

    Thanks again everyone. Bob.

  5. First, thanks to each of you that has commented and rated my pic. I feel like I hit a hole in one and I'm in the clubhouse being congratulated.

As to the crop... There are several reasons why I cropped the way I did.

First, this height allows most people to see the image without scrolling (and retained sufficient width).

Second, the bottom of this "fuzzy thing" is a bit more disorganized than the main body of it, with "hairs" going weird directions.

There were also two other "shoots" that I wished I could have snipped off. Because of the complex background I did not even attempt to clone them out.

Both of these last two issues drew my eye away from the subject and thus I cropped as you see.

I'll attach another version so you can decide yourself. Also, this shows in the true orientation - I had rotated the image for a vertical presentation!

I think it is great. I don't mind the hand. I like the structure it adds, and that it is both closest to us and in the middle of the pic.

I would like to see it with her hair splayed out toward us a bit, instead of behind her.

    But... just lovely!

  6. I like the layered hills, and the height of the moon. I think it would look better without the out of focus trees, and of course it would be nice if the moon was perfectly sharp, but that is very hard to do.

    Love the colors.

  7. Thanks Margaret. It turns out that the 30th of December in my area (outside of Sacramento) had this unusual rain. I explained it in the comments with another pic that has received lots of good ratings here.

It was heavier than mist, but not like rain. Almost looked like snow falling. Weird! And it sort of just sat on the plants. I think it was something to do with how small/fine the individual drops were. There weren't any big drops hitting and knocking everything loose, you know?

I guess now the only bummer is I can't go recreate them! Thanks again.. Bob.

  8. Thank you all again for your comments. I have had the D30 for 9 months, and have been wanting to take a picture that others would really respond to. A good omen for the last day of the year I hope!

Kurt, yes it was raining the whole time I was shooting. The background is really just more of the grass "blades" that make up this plant. But I think because of the combination of the angle, the fact that they are nice and straight, and the degree to which they are out of focus creates a feeling of movement.

I have been examining the other shots I took and there is at least one more that is of the same interest.

Off topic, I just submitted another shot - this one a single blade of grass with numerous huge water bubbles on it. What a day! Guess I should have just kept on shooting!

    Bob.
