bob_t 0 Posted December 31, 2001 Is what it took to create this. This little guy is only about 2" long. We had this very fine rain all day, and it just collected all these nice raindrops. These seems to be one of the best photos I have taken this year. Thank you for your comments / ratings. Bob. Link to comment
jason neymeyer 0 Posted December 31, 2001 Very cool, did you use an extension tube? I'm gonna have to get one of those D30's, the results continue to amaze. Link to comment
m_sprouse 0 Posted December 31, 2001 This is remarkable. A good example of something which would have otherwise gone unseen. Link to comment
bob_t 0 Posted January 1, 2002 Thanks you guys, appreciate the feedback. I finally captured an image which is unique and people seem to react to. No, no extension tube. I had my camera on the tripod about 5 feet away - pretty much the minimum focusing distance with this lens. Only bummer is that this is a crop, the whole area in the original is only about 750 pixels wide. Bob. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted January 1, 2002 Hey Bob, this is so very nicely done. I usually pass at florals, but not this one. I see it was done with a D30. I need to go knock over a bank and get one. I've seen a couple D30 shots here and the results are outstanding. Yours is but another fine example Link to comment
photoman 0 Posted January 1, 2002 Very nice shot. Don't you just love the D30 with the 70-200? I just submitted a close up of a wild seed, let me know what you think of it. Also taken with a D30 and the new 70-200 2.8 IS lens. Link to comment
robert_mcgee 0 Posted January 1, 2002 excecuted very well. Color os very impressive. Gotta love that D 30 matched with a good lens. I have fooled many people with a digital image that looks like film. Link to comment
havanai 0 Posted January 2, 2002 What's the source of the seemingly blurred motion in the background? Did you bring this branch inside or is that the rain falling behind the branch still outside? Link to comment
bob_t 0 Posted January 2, 2002 Thank you all again for your comments. I have had the D30 for 9 months, and have been wanting to take a picture that others would really respond to. A good omen for the last day of the year I hope! Kurt, yes it was raining the whole time I was shooting. The background is really just more of the grass "blades" that make up this plant. But I think because of the combination of the angle, the fact that they are nice and straight, and the degree to which they are out of focus creates a feeling of movement. I have been examining the other shots I took and there is at least one more that is of the same interest. Off topic, I just submitted another shot - this one a single blade of grass with numerous huge water bubbles on it. What a day! Guess I should have just kept on shooting! Bob. Link to comment
sjsimmons 0 Posted January 3, 2002 Wonderful lighting. I think the background is what makes this shot truly great. Thanks for sharing it. Link to comment
gianpaolodettoma 0 Posted January 4, 2002 Amazing colours and lighting. Are the colours and the light coming as they are from your camera or you have manipulated them in some way? Link to comment
george_vincent 0 Posted January 5, 2002 A winner. You have captured something special in the details of life. Link to comment
alex zee 0 Posted January 6, 2002 It would be perfect to crop less from the bottom. Or is there something wrong :-)? Link to comment
bob_t 0 Posted January 6, 2002 First, thanks to each of you that has commented and rated my pic. I feel like I hit a hole in one and I'm in the clubhouse being congratulated. As to the crop... There are several reasons why I cropped the way I did. First, this height allows most people to see the image without scrolling (and retained sufficient width). Second, the bottom of this "fuzzy thing" is a bit more disorganized than the main body of it, with "hairs" going weird directions. There were also two other "shoots" that I wished I could have snipped off. Because of the complex background I did not even attempt to clone them out. Both of these last two issues drew my eye away from the subject and thus I cropped as you see. I'll attach another version so you can decide yourself. Also, this shows in the true orientation - I had rotated the image for a vertical presentation! Bob. Link to comment
taras_kirichenko 0 Posted January 26, 2002 Very exciting ! Was there any photoshop work done on water ? Link to comment
bob_t 0 Posted February 7, 2002 I didn't do anything individually to any part of the image, but I did adjust saturation, contrast, sharpening, and so on. The best thing that could have helped was if I had a macro lens - as the subject is only two inches long. Thanks again to all for ratings and comments. Link to comment
