  1. Sanford, did you read any of the posts regarding "Assisted DSLR & Film Cameras"? If not and if you are still curious, please follow the thread created by Mike (a question about "Assisted") that has now been changed to "Complaint about forum category labels".
  2. Also mentioned by @tgops (PN administrator): "A potpourri basket is a nice present. It certainly does not make for a viable economic enterprise. So, for even as much fun and humor has been shared here--this thread does nothing to advance the perceptions or attraction of PhotoNet." Makes sense, though it is unlikely that an inaccurate menu-heading can enhance an enterprise's economy. I guess this matter is irrelevant because this forum has little or no effect in the "Show me the Money" (Jerry Mcguire) department? Oh well... 😑☹ī¸
  3. This is part of the response to our curiosity : "An assisted film camera is defined by its ability to translate information delivered by the light metering system to the shutter and lens iris. Let's let it go, as that was part of a early visionary attempt to make PN a bit more granular and relevant. No reason we should want to do that?" Now that is quite an enlightenment (not a typographical error) as we joked about "assisted". However it is probably not understood by most people. However, it seems that they are not willing to correct "DSLR and Film Camera" to be a more accurate depiction of the category. Dunno. Wonder if we should let it go or would Sandy want to pick it up?
  4. Oops, it should be "Past and Present Cameras" - omitting "Nikon" at this higher level to include other camera brands. Thanks.
  5. Thanks in advance for improving the menu. Here is an inclusive and elegant description a Nikon forum members has suggested: "Past and Present Nikon Cameras" Thanks in advance!
  6. Think this is probably the most inclusive and elegant description so far. I will add it in. Thanks.
  7. They took the inexplicable "assisted" out, but "DSLR & Film Cameras" is still an incorrect description because this would exclude older-than-DSLR cameras and the current mirrorless crop. I am requesting/hoping they will further modify it to "all camera types" or "miscellaneous camera types" or eliminate this subcategory altogether as I suggested.
  8. Thanks for removing the inexplicable "assisted" term. However, "DSLR & Film Cameras" is still incorrect as this means older-than-DSLR cameras and the current mirrorless cameras are not included. The best thing to do is to eliminate this subcategory menu step to accommodate all gears within Nikon; but if you must include a subcategory, then perhaps "miscellaneous camera types" or "all camera types"? Thanks.
  9. Re "Forums > Gear & Equipment Discussion > DSLR & Assisted Film Cameras > Nikon" "Assisted" makes no sense because there is no "assisted camera". Fact: The Nikon forum accepts all equipment discussion, whether the camera/lens gear is ancient, antique, vintage, film, DSLR, mirrorless, scanners, flash, filters, macro rail, whatever...as one pleases. Sometimes everything is lumped into one thread. So there is no need to categorize. Thus here is a suggestion: Eliminate "DSLR & Assisted Film Cameras". Please do something. We have waited for a correction long enough. Thanks.
  10. Unless someone else is taking some action (this eyesore has been around long enough). I will write the following to the "Help" or whatever forum - If no one objects: Re: " Home > Forums > Gear & Equipment Discussion > DSLR & Assisted Film Cameras > Nikon" "Assisted" makes no sense. Nikon forum members have been waiting for the other shoe to drop but nothing happens so far. Fact: The Nikon forum accepts all equipment discussion, whether ancient, antique, vintage, film, DSLR, mirrorless... Sometimes everything is lumped into one thread. So there is no need to categorize. Thus here is a suggestion: Eliminate "DSLR & Assisted Film Cameras". Please do something. Thanks.
  11. "Assisted Film Cameras": I hope they are not implying that people who use film cameras are in Assisted Living? đŸ¤Ŗ Not true of course. 😎
  12. There doesn't seem to be an adapter available to mount an S lens on Nikon 1 series at this time. ☚ī¸ PS Oops, you were talking about a PF lens. The FT1 adapter may work. Good luck.
  13. As far as I am concerned I am getting comfortable with the smaller and lighter size of M43, Africa or otherwise. I used to handle heavy Nikon equipment when I had to. That said, the Olympus 150-400 w/1.25x f/4 super-tele is not as light as imagined at 4.1 lb - only 1.1 lb lighter than the new Nikon 800mm f6.3 S lens. Also, OM-1's effective sensor resolution is only 20.4, less than half of Z9's 45.7. However, 20mp is plenty as I don't need to crop much with the reach of the super tele. I also like some of the extras that the camera offers, such as the 40 "art filters", though I only use a few of them. There are down sides of course and I suspect they are "user errors" - LOL. Well, one of these days I would like to handle most features proficiently. I am not knocking Nikon, which I like for many reasons.
  14. Indeed. Thought Olympus was in big trouble, but OM continues to gradually release coveted pro lenses, the latest being the 90mm (equivalent to 180mm full frame) f/3.5 macro which is reviewed to be crazy sharp and in pre-order, while the unbelievable 150-400mm (300-800 full frame) is constantly on back-order - I was so lucky to receive one last year. They need to produce more inventory to up their financial health.
  15. Like this. Great for street photography. B&H is accepting pre-order now.
  16. Southern African yellow-billed hornbill.
  17. He was basically saying something similar. Good deal. 🙂 I basically feel the same way with my OM System OM-1 camera as well. However, I have not been doing much BIF experiments as other projects compete for for priority at this time. I do notice excellent bird images at the Nature forum and I suppose most if not all were shot with Nikon.
  18. I asked a friend (an excellent wildlife photographer) how he compares his Z9 against his D850. Frankly I was surprised to hear that there is no comparison because the Z9 blows him away, giving him at least a 70% keeper rate. From some [probably older] reviews I read, I had this idea that somehow the D850 is still better at tracking BIF because the Z9 may make mistakes when the bird flies though twigs and grass. Not any more, I suppose? What about your experience? Here a link to Steve Perry's tips of improving keeper rate: https://backcountrygallery.com/nikon-z9-features-that-really-crank-up-the-keeper-rate/
  19. Please advise where does one find "PhotoNet No Sidebars v2.1"? I would like to opt out from seeing those pictures. Thanks.
  20. Basic Guidelines: In the strictest sense, nature photography should not include "hand of man elements". Please refrain from images with buildings or human made structures like roads, fences, walls. Pets are not permitted. Captive subjects in zoos, arboretums, or aquariums are permitted, but must be declared, and must focus on the subject, not the captivity. Images with obvious human made elements will likely be deleted from the thread, with an explanation to the photographer. Guidelines are based on PSA rules governing Nature photography which also cover the Nature Forum. Keep your image at/under 1000 pixels on the long axis for in-line viewing. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site at Flicker, Photobucket, your own site, etc. Each member please post no more than just one image to this weekly thread per week. If the information is available, many members appreciate information on your approach to making the image and the names, both common and scientific, of the subject(s). However, while encouraged, these are not required as a component of your contributions. Sunrise at Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod Bay, MA.
