1. Wow, so now instead of a simple banner asking me to whitelist your page you decide to completely block the page. Now instead of it being called "adblock", it is called "user block". Good luck.
 2. Hi, I don't visit a lot and do apologize for that. The email address I used to register is no longer valid. I changed the email address in my account and now I cannot login to the forums. I can login to the main photo.net site, but the forums are blocked. I have reverted back to my original email address that I used to register. Is there a way to fix this so I can change the login email address? Otherwise I will not be able to receive any email notifications. Thanks, Brian D
 3. I have read that the limitation for the older cameras was the OS, not LR. So one must use the LR that is associated with OS. LOL What a tangled web Adobe/Microsoft have weaved. The drivers for those cameras only work with WXP 32bit. Again, all this is from what I have read. Someone may have solved this issue by using emulators. I don't know.
 4. I search here but could not find anything. This is not a question but more of a notification. I have done this twice now and the instructions I found on the net did not work for me. They may have worked for others and that is good. But I still found posts where some could not get it to work. I have written up instructions for myself just in case I screw up and forgot how I did it. They can be found at my website. A note about my website. I built it myself and there are no ads, not cookies required, no nothing. So it is safe to access. Brian B Donaldson - Freelance Photographer - Freelance Photojournalist Like I said, I did this for me. If you read the whole page (very short) you will see why I did this. So if you stop by, thanks. If not, it is all good.
 5.
No, not 100% sure since there is no "CCA" rating on these types of batteries. In this case, the 20 hour discharge rating is 4.5 amps. I have measured up to 11.26 amps of draw. Most batteries will give a very high amp output for a very very brief time. So I do not suspect 10 amps to be significant for that kind of battery as long as it is not sustained. Remember that your 4xAA batteries are basically doing the same thing with smaller plates. The SLA has bigger surface area for its plates. If anything, it could be the wire size. I used 18AWG.

 6.
Hi guys and gals,

I am sure this has been covered a million times over, but thought I would give it a little twist. I recent constructed an alternate power source for my 550ex. Doing this project was fun, but the part that was really fun was determining how much current the flash needs to recharge the capacitor. I have looked for this info but could not find it. Maybe it is out there but it not, it is now.

I made a video of the flash current draw and put it up on Youtube: https://youtu.be/gb3VBd9wNzY

In summary, the current draw is about 8 amps (min) to 10 amps (max) after the flash has fired and is recharging the batteries. Recycle time was about 3 seconds. Might be high but for me it is not important. Just for the record, recycle time on 1/2 power was about 500ms.

I have also attached an image of my setup. Hope this info helps others who want to do this project.

Thanks for viewing and reading.

 7.
Great information guys. I guess it is the novelty of being imaged by a camera that took pictures almost a century ago. LOL Anyway, I have my work cut out for me so better get started looking for the additional equipment. Being that it was free give a new meaning for "work". Had I paid for it and not received film/plate holders then I guess I would be disappointed. :)

Thanks again!

 8.
Doing a little more digging, this might be a 9x12 Taxo, and not a Suevia. There is so little information available. I just have not see a CN with this configuration. But the 13.5cm 6.8 lens might tell me it is a 9x12.

 9.
I have just been given (free) a Contessa-Nettel (Suevia?) camera. It looks to be in almost perfect (interior) condition. What is missing are film holder(s). Searching eBay I have found a few 6.5x9 film holders that look like they might fit. One is made by Kodak and it has all the correct side and bottom slide guides.

Has anyone found film holders that might fit this camera? Or are there any 3rd party film holders that might fit? Would love to try this guy and see what kind of results I would get.

By the way, where can I get film and how would I load film into the holder? Or, would I just get a roll fo 120 and cut it up to size?

Thanks,
Brian D

 10.
I currently work as a Photo Lab Technician at a Walmart in SoCal.

In January, Walmart replace all our HP Kiosks with Fuji Kiosk. They also replaced our Fuji DL400 with a DL600 printer. The HP wide printer we had was replaced with an Epson (model escapes but if you want to know I will get it). The services we used to provide has been reduced. Also, with the introduction of the Fuji Kiosks, the customers ability to correct their own prints has been virtually removed. Also, we used to be able to color balance on the main computer in the lab (if one knew how) but that too has been removed.

Customers not just plug and play, at a cost. That cost is the ability to edit their prints so heads are not cut off. They select 4x6 even if their images are 16:9, 1:1, or 4:3. They do not have the ability to view them on the spot as the HP machines did. They would have to view each image with the edit button one at a time. Customer do not have time for that. So I end up fixing a lot of prints and that is a waste of paper.

I lave listed about 30+ observations about the services we have now. They were given to the local Fuji rep the last time he was in the store. As of last week, I have seen some changes in the Kiosk menus and the way the images appear on screen. We now see dark lines that mean this will be cropped during printing. This at least gives the customer a chance to see if heads will be cut off. Plus, they have also some editing tools for color, brightness, contrast, and saturation. But that is still not enough.

Because of the changes since January, I have had to send customers to other stores that still had the HP machines, or to a place called North Coast Photographic. Some customers who are loyal have remained. However, I feel that Walmart will indeed start to phase out their Photo Labs in about a year or two. They are not hiring photo savvy employees anymore. When I am not there, employees from Electronics work the desk. They only see photo as a hiding place. They do not really understand what we do and how we help the customers.

Film scanning is another issue. Scanning of neg and slides was taken away. Film processing has remained the same. There are no more wet labs in our area except NCP that I mentioned above. I am thinking of doing a side business of scanning so that customers do not have to wait 2~3 weeks for their orders.

This is what is currently happen in SoCal. I cannot speak for other stores in other locations. But my guess is they are as frustrated as I am with what services we once had are now gone.

 11.
Update: Although I have not tried this yet (house cleaning day - LOL) I found this on youtube. A guy using a V700 has the same issues with auto crop. See the video at the 3:10 mark and he describes my issue and the solution.

With that, I want to say thanks for your comments. I will try this later and also try some of the software you guys recommend. Such a wealth of knowledge here that I do not always tap into.

Brian D

 12.
Charles, I saw that when I was in config mode. I was surprised there were no other options. But that gives me an idea. I just might try that on 35mm slides. All my cropping and post work is being done in PS CS6 anyway.

Alan, yeah, I totally agree about scanning flat. As I had mentioned above, I was playing around. I just got the scanner yesterday and wanted to see what it was all about. That is when I discovered the cropping of dark slides instead of giving me the "whole picture" if I may.

One more thing I forgot to mention. In preview mode on the normal screen where one sees all four slides in the holder, the images are correct. Only in the thumbnail mode are the images cropped. Might have to call Epson about that.

My scanning introduction was on the Frontier scanners. Nice but not the highest resolution as I remember.

Thanks again,
Brian D

 13.
Thanks guys. Just got home from work. I read some of your comments while I was on break. Now I have a chance to reply.

Charles, I was in config mode but did not see anything about setting film size. I will look again when next I connect to the scanner. I personally don't mind recommendations for third party software. Sometimes TPS is better than the manufacture's software. So it is worth a try.

John, how does one get to "expert" mode? I don't recall seeing anything like that. I will check it out on Saturday.

Alan, I have looked at the manual. It is written, like most manuals, very poorly. Typical engineer writing. Having worked in the Satellite business testing and installing earth stations, I know how engineers write. As for all the checked boxes, I was in experiment mode. I eventually unchecked everything. I also tried both vertical and horizontal and the cropping followed.

I will play again tomorrow and see what I can do. I want to keep the scanner because I like it so far. I am sure I will find out what I was doing wrong.

Thanks again,
Brian D

 14.
Thanks Stephen for the response. So you think it is a function of the software that is causing this issue? That would be nice if it is the only thing. I do like the film results so far. I do not have that many slides but may come across more later and I would not want to be limited because of desirable cropping.

I looked at the Vuescan page. Thanks for that. What will Vuescan bring to the table that is lacking in the Epson software? I am sure there is something. But you mentioned that you have not used the Epson so I guess that was an unfair question.

Thanks again for your input.
Brian D

 15.
I have searched around here to see if anyone else has had this issue but do not see anything.

Hi guys, long time no see. I purchased a refurbished Epson V550 from Amazon and it arrived today. Just happened to have a box of slides and some film so thought it would be a great time to test drive the box. Got it all set up, easy enough, and got started.

My first slide scan was interesting. First slide was a full scan, meaning the entire image was visible. Second slide seemed cropped. Third and fourth were definitely cropped. Not sure what was going on. Tried the same slides but in different locations and the same result. Issue followed the slides. One slide was taken in daylight while the other three were done indoors. (Subject was my wedding in 1979).

I thought the scanner may have been out of alignment so I took the slides off and left the carriage on the glass and did a scan. The scan showed all four holders for the slides and they were correct. Put the slides back in and same results as before.

So I put the slides away and moved to the film. No issues at all (save for the dimensions were not the same for each image). Nothing that I can not live with. But the slide thing is bothering me.

Does anyone have a V550 or equivelant who can scan both indoor and outdoor slides to see if they have the same results? Or maybe know of a way I can get the scanner to just scan and let me crop?

Thanks,
Brian D
