  1. I too use a 5DC as my main rig and the backup is a 20D. One thing to note: the mirror of my 5DC fell out during a shoot. I cleaned it up and applied a little super glue and reattached. You might want to search the net for the procedure. But the key is... just enough glue to keep it in place.
  2. Remember when movie function on a SLR was called Motor Drive? It is not the markets that drive what is out there, it is some person sitting in their office who dictates what we will get. How many times has anyone been polled on what would be nice features on a camera? Even ask the general public what they would like in camera? Never, so it is not the market. It really is about who has the most bells and whistles. I have no movie functions on my DSLRs. I do have movie function on my Fuji x100 and Canon G12. I think I too have only used the movie function once. Never again because it drained my battery faster than I had planned. Is still photography dead? Could very well be. I watch a How To video on lighting once and the guy was using the video mode on his highend DSLR. He just had the model move around and then he took what he needed? Innovative or lazy? For me, I don't know. I have a medium format camera that has a Polaroid back. Can't use it anymore because of a lack of 1) film and 2) the high cost of a 10 exposure film pack. What will happen to my Nikon F(2) cameras when I can't get 35mm film? Or my Mamiya RB67 when 110 film is a thing of the past. Unfortunately, that is what will happen. Still image only photography will fall to the way side like cars that can be driven by a person. JMHO
  3. So true. The market is flooded with perfectly fine used gear. Why buy new when "hardly used" is readily available. Yes, having the newest shiny gadget with all the latest bells and whistles is nice, but for the price of one new, one could buy two used.
  4. Well I cured my indecisiveness and bit the bullet. I should get the F2 by the end of the month. The photos of the camera show normal wear and tear, did not see any major signs of fungus or mold. The DE-1 has a tiny dent at the very top of the prism. I think that maybe that dent can be fixed if I take just the sheet metal to a metal shop. Anyway... again, appreciate the advice and encouragement to just go for it.
  5. Ben, I thought about trying that. But my F2 is black and my F is chrome. Would look a little strange, but it would deffinitely be MINE. LOL Heimbrandt, you are 100% correct. I unfortunately quaver back and forth between "do it" and "what it". I have to wait until my indecisiveness quits. Then, on top of that, do I go black F2 or just get another F2 and have one of each? LOL
  6. Sover Wong did my F2AS when I purchased it. I got it from KEH and it was in really good condition. I also bought my F from KEH, plus all my Canon L lenses and 5D. KEH been making some money off of me. LOL My first F2AS was purchased in Korea when I was stationed at the US Embassy. I also get the DE-1 from downtown Seoul. I seem to recall it was not that expensive either. Sold the lot a few years later. Silly me. I read the article about the fungus. I looked over the pictures of the camera(s) and they seem clean, but that does not mean they are clean. Oh well, guess i'll just bite the bullet and shell out for a DE-1 sold here in the US. Thanks guys for the advice.
  7. Thanks Mark, without delving too deeply, were the cost of the lenses over $250? I read that is the cut-off for tariff free.
  8. Anyone here ever purchase a F2, or for that matter, any camera from Japan? I have a F2AS and I would like to get a DE-1 prism but they cost more than an entire F2 camera. Just don't understand why a DE-1 cost so much. Anyway, there are a few F2 cameras being sold from Japan with DE-1's and their price is very affordable. However, I am not sure how much tariff will be when it arrives here in the lovely USA. I also have a F PhotomicFtn and standard eye-level prism. Would just love to have the F2 with the standard prism as well. Thoughts?
  9. Mark, it happened with Micro Soft Picture Manager. I resized the image and did not notice the weird results. I went back in to CS6 and resized it there and no problem. Haven't had issues with MSPM before, but I guess I should stick with CS6.
  10. Sorry, tried to replace this image because of weird lines. But the forum kicked me out after 15 minutes. POJ. So disregard post #22 above and allow me to put a new one in. Canon 20D f8 1/200 ISO 100 18-55mm @44mm Thanks
  11. Yeah, my bad. I thought I read that somewhere but I guess they were talking about the 430EX, not 430EZ. Silly Canon. Should have given the flashes a really different name. LOL
  12. For a few bucks, you can get a 5xxEZ or 4xxEZ flash off of eBay. These were geared to work with the 1n. I even think the 430EZ has E-TTL so it will work with your digitals, maybe. :)
  13. I think I may have stumbled upon the answer. When I was moving the camera around while on, I noticed the aperture opening and closing. So I took a picture outdoors bright sunlight and quickly looked at the lens. The aperture was still closed. A few seconds later it opened. My suspicion is this is the way the EVF works. The lens will not revert back to a wide open status until shortly after the shot has been taken. I even tried this indoors and it did basically the same thing. So it also looks like the settings, as you mentioned, @Sanford, also has something to do with it. It is all good. I don't think it is an issue with the camera. Thanks
  14. My Fuji X100 is a great little camera. I love it. I take it with me in lieu of my Canon 5Dc. But I have a weird observation. While in bright light when I take an exposure, the EVF will remain dark for a few seconds. It does not affect the image and they appear to be properly exposed, but it just concerns me since I do not understand why it does this. Anyone else have a FujiX100 and notice the same thing? Thanks
  15. I had the same issue. It was caused by me changing the login email address. The email address I used to register is no longer active. So I changed it to my current email address. I was able to login to the main site but could not login to the forums. It is as if the two are linked and if one is changed it does not follow. I too filed a request but heard nothing in return. It is as if Photo.net in a one man operation with tons of issues (posted here) to fix. I am still at that point where I cannot get email notifications because they are going to a dead account. If you did not change your email login on your profile then there is something else working it's evil.
  16. I agree with TriggerHappy andI also use the 550ex with my 1n. There are some configuration parameters that will need to be addressed but it works. I am sure the 420ex will also work, but I recommend you download the manuals (if you don't have them) and check for compatibility.
  17. Good reads. Wouldn't that be cool if Nikon came out with a limited edition Nikkormat dFTn?
  18. For that price? Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR Camera Body {12.8 M/P}
  19. Several links have been posted as to why advertising is needed. I would like to present to this audience the opposing opinion of why adblocking is a much needed security tool. Granted, it has been said that the ads presented here to totally photography related. OK, I get that and I see that (although Save the Children is not photography related). So with that, and I hope this is not deleted in fairness of presenting two sides of the story, here is the piece: Princeton’s Ad-Blocking Superweapon May Put an End to the Ad-Blocking Arms Race Watch the video that is in the article. It is both informative and humorous.
  20. If this is a 5D classic it won't have Live Mode. :( I wonder if reloading the firmware might help.
