  1. I'm beginning to feel a strange attraction to rice paper and scotch tape
  2. In a semi related note...is there a diffuser or some DIY rube goldberg design that can be used as a diffuser on the pop up flash? I've looked at the major houses and found nothing.
  3. thanks...found and ordered. The good news is the package includes the focus grip and the zoom grip and looks OEM. the bad news....expect delivery by MAY 4. My present grip should last that long though. $7, Thanks
  4. @chulster...you can get one that looks OEM (ish)? @mike_halliwell...I am much more familiar with Peychauds Bitters, used in my favorite, classic New Orleans, Sazarac. @Andrew Garrard That little flash comes in real handy shooting night parades at Mardi Gras. And it can be aesthetically pleasing, I think. It helps to keep the ISO down and gives me some creative potential with other settings. I usually shoot in an area that just has street lights, the street itself is often dark, but that little flash allowed this and I would def miss its convenience . Things are happening very quickly.
  5. I thought I'd follow up on this thread. The camera has performed flawlessly, shutter count is up to 58255. It has traveled on the back of my motorcycle from New Orleans to Nova Scotia, around Lake Superior and up to BC and out to Victoria Island. No hint of trouble. I am occasionally tempted to look at the 850, primarily for its articulating screen, but in my world the 810's pop up flash is way more valuable. I came across the thread because the rubber focus ring grip on my 24-70 2.8 G is starting to split. There was a thread about this a while back with various solutions, but I cannot find info on how much Nikon would charge to replace the grip. In short, my "refurb" 810 has been just fine in the nearly 2.5ish years I've had it
  6. Doesn't the start of video require a press of the shutter and then another press of the shutter to stop? IOW you do not have to continuously hold down the shutter button. Tripod, manual focus, start video, walk into frame, ..., walk out of frame press shutter to stop video and edit in post
  7. Coming down from Tekkakaw Falls, Yoho National Park, BC, just before I went over on the lowermost of the three extreme hairpins. New Orleans to Vancouver Island June/July 2019.
  8. hey, you bike guys, what are your rides? Is that an Africa Twin? the new one? And a Blue Tiger? I'd post my GS but she is 3.5 years old, though still "new" at nearly 60k miles.
  9. Do any of the major photo supply houses offer military/veterans discounts: 1) At all? 2) on top of already discounted items? 3) in addition to the rebates on rebated items? I'm talking B&H, Adorama, KEH, etc Thanks in advance
  10. @ShunCheung Looks to me they are celebrating the 49ers in the Super Bowl, and Lunar NY, too
  11. So, I've been playing with the wacom vs trackpad for processing the same picture with similar processing. It seems that there is not much of a difference if any in output size with the 2 input methods. I have not seen the trackpad to be bigger, but that could be due to the superior editing capabilities of the Wacom, putting more subtle changes in the process.
  12. Sorry, don't understand. From what you're saying, the "quality" slider does not do much, so might as well set it at 75 or so to help keep file size down--unless the image demonstrably demands a higher setting, eg to prevent banding? Is that correct? And it would appear you are not Jeffery. 8)
  13. sorry, hit send too quickly...I've read through your blog on LR's Quality Settings and can see the differences you note. Other than banding are there any other real-world noticeable quality differences you've noticed? you state: What about for printing? Does the quality setting play the same or a different role there, ie, becoming more important or not?
  14. @digitaldog Pardon the perhaps stupid question: What does "quality" refer to or do?
