  1. For the picture posted, should have put the lighter sky in the background behinds the heads; should have aimed the flash bit higher as the exposure of the white shirt decreases from front-to-back & bottom-to-top. As already had been noted, a second light (on a light stand or held by someone) on the side or behind to separate people in general would be an improvement.
  2. <p><i>So read up the writing capability & data buffer of your camera, then match that with a card of write speed that can at least match that.</i> -- parv <p>Horrible sentence that was! Make that to be "<i>So read up on the card writing & data buffer capacity specifications of your camera. Then use a card with a write speed that can at least keep up with the camera"</i>.
  3. <p>Custom CSS for photo.net ... <p> <img src="http://bitter-almonds.com/tmp/photo-net-css.jpeg"> <p>
  4. Those "45 MB/s" & "95 MB/s" speeds are READ speeds, not write speeds. The write speed is to be searched for in detailed specification of the card. These are further affected with connection speed and the hardware capabilities used for reading from & writing to the card. So read up the writing capability & data buffer of your camera, then match that with a card of write speed that can at least match that.
  5. <p><i> If you're not comfortable with that, I wonder whether assistance from your local Better Business Bureau might help. You can probably file a case with them online.</i> -- Howard V. <p>All Better Business Bureau -- non-government entity -- can do is note the complaint, to tell somebody else at a later date. BBB does not have any legal authority with which it could compel the business bent on being terrible to do anything good.

  7. Thanks much Jeff for adding the link to contact the moderator.
  8. Spam in thread ... http://www.photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00F4ns ... resulted in unnecessary thread bumping. BTW the "more" link ... http://www.photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/policy?topic_id=1701 ... in "About this forum" section on right goes to error message. And, where is a link to a moderator of Digital Darkroom forum anyway?
  9. There should be a setting in the menu whether to rotate the preview on demand/manually or automatically (based on settings available in A700 & A900).
  10. John, I read the text you quoted as display of disgust toward the magazine; and the original post as asking for suggestions about what to do to make the magazine properly credit the image (if anything could be done).
  11. Some people are missing the fine point that OP wanted ONLY to be CREDITED, as in OP's NAME being printed along with the image. OP does not suggest anything about monetary compensation.
  12. Sarah, I have done the deed myself that confounds you. The image taken as such is a record of the time when I was (sometimes with others) there, perhaps to look back in nostalgia. As long as something is recognizable in the background, such a photograph is alright. Taking the photo myself while being in the photograph is so darn fun than otherwise. As there is a high possibility of missing focus, exposure, taking self-group photo is a *cough* skill *cough*. Not to mention, I feel more at ease making faces than in the case of somebody else taking a group photograph. Also, I personally don't care for the various *scapes (except on rare occasions) as I would rather be present in person. JDM, your image of the walrus is upside down & is severely out of focus. Does your camera not have focus autotune, rather pervasive these days you know? The exposure is shot; it works neither for the more in focus background of clouds, nor for the walrus. Say, are you passing the walrus to be a likeness of yourself, JDM? Yes? ;^}
  13. Do you not see "more (something)" text on dark background at the bottom?
  14. I missed to note earlier: I would have liked to take Minolta 80-200 mm f/2.8 HS as the only lens some times, despite being the heaviest, but it is not viable due to its longest minimum focus distance (among all of my lenses) of 1.8 m|5.9 ft. When I do bring this zoom lens, then Minolta 35 mm and/or 50 mm lens come(s) along.
  15. So far I have taken one of Sony A700 or A900 camera with one of Minolta 50 mm f/1.7, 35 mm f/2, and Tamron 90 mm f/2.8. I didn't, & don't, worry about the images that could have been taken with lenses not with me.
  16. Wayne, I did if you meant the link (in your OP) to a page with a woman in olive top holding a camera with green tones. BTW, that page also lists your Google mail address. ( . . . time passes . . . ) Never mind as I found your Aug 2014 post ... http://www.photo.net/pentax-camera-forum/00cnDw ... that has a link to ... http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/dslr/K-S1_Standard ... so now I understand that the purpose of this thread was to introduce us to the camera color options. I am sorry for the noise.
  17. The only thing of interest in details-lacking page was the poorly worded claim that ISO 51200 "will achieve greater enhancement of your photos". That begs to be tested.
  18. I personally disable the GPS data writing. If needed, I would enable only then. OTOH, see Jeffrey F's blog -- http://regex.info/blog/ -- to see his use of GPS data in images to collect the past posts/images related to the topic.
  19. It was a good run while it lasted. "http://classic.keh.com" now shows the newer, but not necessarily "updated", design.
  20. The Classic -- http://classic.keh.com/ -- is still well & alive from here.
  21. The Sigma EM-140 DG macro flash light (have one for sale :-) comes with step-up rings to attach the light to the lens. I think Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 would also (have the step-up rings). As both have two bulbs on two opposing sides, so they are not really ring flash lights. There are also cheaper LED ring lights mentioned around here & elsewhere (Dyxum, D P Review, Flickr, etc.)
  22. Blame Sony for using similar enough model names while changing the hot shoe: HVL-F43*A*M does not need adapter to use with Minolta iISO camera shoe, while HVL-F43M does. Somebody not aware of that -- myself included, OP himself, and/or B & H staff -- would surely likely to be confused. I myself have to search for "Sony 43 flash shoe" and was surprised to find that the above as I was not aware of the existence of HVL-F43M until then ... https://blog.sony.com/press/sony-introduces-versatile-new-hvl-f43m-external-flash-gun/
