  1. On my monitor the darker areas have kind of a cross-hatch pattern. I presume this is the scan (or just my sorry monitor). Either way, the basic shot is wonderful. Good eye for dramatic light.

I'm not sure what to make of the light line outlining some of the mountains, but overall I think this is a great image with a real painterly, watercolorish quality. Did you do any PS work on it?

Great composition and nice (compressed) perspective. I do feel, however, that the color of the water appears unnatural. It is not that it appears too saturated-- it looks as if it has blue food coloring or Tidy Bowl in it. The foam doesn't appear white enough...it looks blue. Maybe that's the way it really looked but it doesn't ring true. Was any post-exposure manipulation done to "enhance" the water? If so, you might try again and decrease the enhancement. Otherwise a wonderful shot.
  2. Good composition and exposure. You have a good eye. My only suggestion is to apply all of your obvious skills at different times of day. While this photo is already good, imagine how it would look with the subtle pastels of daybreak or dramatic colors of sunset. I know this is not always possible in the mountains (or even advisable in the case of summits) but it can produce memorable results. Thanks for the photos and keep up the good work.

I think this is an excellent documentary photograph. Much of Sebastio Salgado's work depicts unpleasant scenes. The same for Dorothea Lange, Robert Frank, and Larry Clark. So, while I'm not elevating the death of a squirrel to the level of human suffering revealed by these photographers, if Mr. Chan feels it is important and can make us feel it to some degree as well, I think he has produced a successful photograph.
