1.
Hi Bob,
Canon CPS says 150,000 actuations.

 2.
Harry, I'm running Windows 8.1 and I have both 3.12.51.2 and ver. 4.0 installed. Either works fine (and independently) on my machine. I did not have to uninstall anything.

 3.
Thanks, Thom. Your squirrel portrait is really nice. I like the color of the squirrel and the full reflection in the water.

 4.
Really nice image, Robin!
Welcome back, Lupo.

 5.
On another forum, someone mentioned the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT as an alternate to the ST-E3-RT. It includes a built-in AF assist beam emitter which the Canon unit does not have; a useful feature in some situations.

Now, having said that, I have zero experience with Yongnuo products. So, I'm only passing this along; no experience using their flashes or wireless transmitters.

I've always liked my 580EX-II flashes, but I absolutely love the 600EX-RT primarily because of the much better interface.

 6.
Dan, I've been using them for a while now with perfect success. I had been using Pocket Wizards (Flex and Mini) but would occasionally get a misfire. In their defense, I've shot thousands of frames where they worked perfectly.

I also purchased the ST-E3-RT which has the identical interface as the flash units. Makes it easy to assign groups or set ratios. I'm very pleased with both.

 7.
Thank you, Michael Chang! And I would agree with your assessment of Gordon's snake (outstanding lighting) and Thom's islands (looks like it was painted). So many really nice photos this Monday. And I would be remiss without mentioning our forum starter's capture of the Lyca...Lycogl...Licol...errr, slime mold.

 8.
You can try these folks...

http://www.uscamera.com/600exrt.htm

 9.
Wait a minute...are you sure that's not Hadrian's Wall behind that liverwort, Laura? ;-)

One of my favorite things about nature is the endless variety of color. This little bee stood out like a sparkling gem against the flower.

 10.
@Jeff, ;-)

I really botched this exposure while trying to rush the shot. As a result, this was at ISO 12,800 and really underexposed. When I realized my mistake, it was too late; the grasshopper was gone. I liked the grasshopper's pose and the leaf, so I tried to rescue it in post.

 11.
Laura, thank you for starting the MiN thread and for your special messages each week. I'm sure all of the participants here and those who stumble across the thread enjoy reading your opening monologue and seeing photos of nature from around the globe. Thank you for your time, effort and contribution each week.

Rick, when I've been asked to photograph someone for a portrait, I usually try to get to know them a bit to see if I can learn who they are and make their image do justice to their personality. If I thought of making a portrait of Laura, your photo immediately comes to mind. It would probably be one of her down on hands and knees near a stream, with magnifying glass in hand, looking at some minute growth that most of us would never see.

Whenever anyone asks what's your favorite photo you've taken, I'm immediately at a loss to think of one. I like to photograph flowers, animals and insects, so it's hard to choose just one. Here's one with two of those things.

 12.
Let's try that again. RED!

 14.
Very cool macro, Laura.
