great - so in a sense, is GIMP a photoshop type program and UFRAW is photoshop's raw converter?
roughly speaking :)

-

my friend recently bought the S95 camera. he is wanting to get into RAW shooting but naturally
doesnt have the software on his compute to open the files.
is there anything reliable he can download from the web? or does he need to install photoshop with camera raw etc?
just to make sure im clear... one only shoots in RAW when one plans on editing the image, is this right?
otherwise, it might be best to shoot in a different mode if one has no intention to play with the image and edit it. is this right?

thank you all

but is it worth getting a G12 or is the G11 still a winner?

-

now im confused.

i thought the canon and nikon that i mentioned were the winners at the moment.

confused :(

i need a very good point & shoot. i have my great dSLR with great lenses etc, but need a fantastic point and shoot.

i suppose my initial question is: is it worth getting the G12? or is the G11 just as good at a smaller price tag?

-

or canon S95? :)

-

or should i go for: Nikon Coolpix P7000

-

im looking into buying one of those camera ... i know the G12 is recently out.
any thoughts in which one to go far and how does one exceed the other?

thank you

I always tend to adjust image size and resolution but this is the first time i come across this.
how do i do it?

Thank you.

im abroad at the moment, travelling around the middle east. came across a tiny photo shot with those two cameras for sale Nikon FM2 and Canon F1. either of those two classics and worth buying? how much would they normally go for in the US ?

i did a portrait for a baby not long ago ( a newborn) - she was covered with a lot of body/baby hair.
most of the baby was wrapped up in a delicate blanket except for shoulders and feet... can see quite a bit of the hair on shoulders and i cant work out an easy way to get rid of it on photoshop. any tricks?

thank you andrew - naturally, i want to continue in improving the quality of my prints to as high a standard as possible - and read the fine art printers need this - so my question is: is this a software that should be added to my workflow/printing methods to bring up the quality of my prints using my Epson 3800 and on Hahnmuehle paper that is then sold to my clients etc

-

now im confused - the comments saying not needed - and then John A's final comment :/

help!

what are postscript files?

-

hi patrick - thank you for your reply - always so helpful.
one of the things you mentioned is for neutral BW prints - i do a lot of BW prints - do i still not need it?
i am reading so much about people that use it for their prints on hahnmuehle paper (which is what i use)

can i use the Colorburst X-Photo with my 3800 ?
is it difficult to use? or is it merely a software and i continue work/printing as normal? i also print at 360dpi
still confused with how it works and how complicated it is when i do go to print.

-

Recently, I have been reading more about fine art printing/colour management and came across ColorBurst RIP software that some people say are essential. (I print on an Epson 3800)
I am still confused as to what exactly this is and whether it is needed for fine art printing.
Any experiences/thoughts?
Thank you.

i recently went to a photo exhibition that i was quite impressed with. I'm new in investing in photography and wondered if it's considered acceptable and normal to ask what the images are printed on. whether the paper used is acidfree/acrchival paper - what brand paper was used etc. what printer was used and so on.
Is this considered acceptable questions from a buyer or can the gallery turn around and say they cant answer that.

hi all,
im constantly trying to find out about photography events taking place in the UK & aborad but always seem
to come across them a bit too late.
are there any websites dedicated to gathering info for photography events? whether festivals, galleries,
exhibitions, workshops, lectures & talks etc ?
i would very much be interested in joining the mailing lists of a few of those websites in order to be constantly
updated rather than having to constantly search online.

please let me know... most of my time is spent in London - so if there is a site for the UK alone, that will also
do - as well as another site that caters to international exhibits, events etc.

thank you

thank you patrick - could you at least give me some steps to follow for basic noise reduction. just a general noise reduction process i can apply. thank you

-

are there any tips that i can follow whilst editing an image that was taken off of a mobile phone (iphone, blackberry etc) ?
in terms of noise reduction & the likes. any steps that i can start with would be highly appreciated.
