1.
one last thought ... the actual background brick wall and big glass windows are, as i said, about 4m behind subject. i shot at F8 .. so im wondering whether it's due to the lack of a back light or the subject being close to the bacground that's creating this feel like it's pasted on to the background. maybe a bit less than 4m

any help would be greatly appreciated.

 2.
also, the subject looks a touch fake - as if posted to the background. i cant work out why. could it be that a mirror-like background gives that effect, or is it because i didnt back light the subject. i took a reading of the available daylight on subject and added a touch of fill-flash through a large softbox .. but subject looks flat, and very much like a background has been pasted in. weird lining on subject shoulders etc that is giving it a fake feel as if it's been copied into the background. is that the mirror effect or lack of a back light?

 3.
i had a photoshoot today, with my subject placed infront of some large glass windows, reflecting a gorgeous scene behind me. i'm going through the work at the moment, and the subjects look quite strange, against the background. they are very much overpowering the background in scale/size.
i used a 50mm lens. at one point , i changed to my 85mm lens, and those images look more normal.
the scale and size of subject to background reflected in glass look more normal ... is it due to my lenses or the angle that i was on. i had my camera on a tripod , just above eye level.
some of the subjects are higher than a brick wall that is showing up in the reflection.

kindly explain what went wrong. it looks odd. although other things in the reflection, look in normal scale/proportion. it really is the size of subjects against the wall all the way in the background.

many thanks.

 4.
i am recently reading up about the golden hour in photography and that it is the first and last hour of sunlight.
i am setting up for a portrait photoshoot and would like to do it in the final hour. where i am at the moment, sunset is listed at 7.15pm ... does that mean i start shooting at 6.15pm ? or do i calculate backwards from when it is totally dark.... say for example 7 till 8 ?
i plan on using a bit of fill flash .... do i leave the white balance at auto? or manual for daylight?

 5.
i have also just read, that when changing Image Size, one must work on a copy of the image as it can affect the colours?! is this true. i don't save my changes, i do a test and then go to Undo ... is this ok?
here is where i read the info: (scroll down to image size)
6.
i still cant get this right - i tried the center image option - still no use. today i tried to go into image size .. resized the image to 18" length, so that leave me with .5" for each side as A3+ paper is 19" long. i then went to print image .. and made two trials.. 1) center image. i still got unequal borders .. i then tried fit to media... still unequal borders, all but 3 sides seems ok... as it's a horizontal image.. the border on the right side is larger than all the others.
i cant work out what i'm doing wrong!

 7.
i have tried another print today - prior to reading the new replies.
i set image size length to 18 (as A3+ is 18.5) that would leave me a thin border on each side.
the top & bottom borders have come out equal. the left and right border are slightly larger than the top & bottom and they're not equal.
i never noticed the center image box - will look for it when back at work tomorrow
many thanks.

 8.
i have been having this problem for some time now. i print on my epson 3800 ... my prints never come out centered. the border is always slightly larger at one side than the other. can anyone help?!
most of my prints are done on A3+ paper size. once i'm ready to print. i go to Canvas Size, add a .2 border, i then go to Image Size, and select a size as close to the paper size as possible... so i punch in, height 12inches.

i then go to Print. i select the paper size and whether it's landscape or portrait .. and then i hit Fit to Media
i can never get a centered print - what am i doing wrong? can someone give me the proper steps please?
many thanks. should i just calculate the border when i punch in Image Size, rather than going to canvas size?

 9.
matt, thank you for your reply - very useful.

i prefer the shortened version....
i could then have a caption at the end of the gallery saying... to view print, please contact... or something along those lines - as i will have them hanging in my studio - where i plan on using the empty walls as my gallery.

do you think that would be acceptable?
so just saying: 8*12 print in 16*20 mat & frame

for further information or to arrange for a viewing - please contact....

 10.
one more question ... for the caption - i believe it should also include the type of print .. correct.

whether it's a c-type print or digital print etc.
i am printing all my work on archival digial paper, on my epson 3800 and framing/mounting with archival material too.
what is the correct word to describe digital prints of that quality.

do i only write (for example)
digital print
10" * 8"

OR
archival digital print
10" * 8"

 11.
hi ... in the process of adding another category to my current website and interested in people's thoughts as i'm slightly confused :) i mainly do portrait photography - private commissions (fine art) - nothing about it is commercial.

i am now hoping to expand my work by adding a section to well my prints - not the portrait work ofcourse (as those are all private for clients) - but other work that i have - street photography, abstract etc.
i am struggling with a good name for that category so that it doesnt come across as too commercial - maintaining the fine art aspect of it. i initially thought about PRINTS FOR SALE - but that is too commercial.
i then thought about FINE ART ... and adding a little box prior to the images saying something like: for further enquiries, contact ..... OR price on application. I then thought I could call it SHOP ..but still not loving it.
please help :)

my other question is the caption for each of those images. which will naturally include the dimensions.
my question is - do i write the dimensions of the IMAGE as it is on the paper? or the size of the paper OR the size of the final framed piece? as i intend on selling them, signed, mounted framed - not as individual prints.
