6. If you using Epson scan, I think D-ICE is disabled with 16bit BW set. Backlight should be used sparingly,
 7. I scan as a negative, 16bit, B&W at around 3000dpi with my V700 and epson scan I adjust the histogram, and contrast in epson scan also. I use epson ANR holder (3 strips of film, not 4) Get great results But,I will try this workflow, I have heard this works for color negatives also.
 8. I agree, look at your editing workflow. You may not be setting your highlights or midtones bright enough. I sometimes edit darker than the picture was in real life. Use the Histogram in your editing software to adjust the midtones and highlights... In Lr your can DRAG 4 or 5 areas directly ON the histogram.then use the sliders to fine tune. Could you post your image?

 15. I know this is an old thread BUT, I just received a Minolta III that takes a AA bat... S# 122378 The 6v ones have a memory for your ASA settings... the AA have an ON/OFF switch (where the memory switch is on the 6v ones) and does not save the ASA settings. The AA one resets to ASA 100 when you turn it on. I suggest the AA one is the OLDER, the 1st version, and the 6v one is the NEWER version with an ASA memory added.
 16.
For us older folks, AF isn't for "JUST" fast moving subjects, It is for better and faster focusing with older eyes!!!
Glasses or not.
That is why I will get an AF MF camera.... Pentax 645NII most likely... as my 62 Years young birthday gift.
