    Lake On Fire

    Thank you Mike and Pierre.

Mike - you are right that I should used a smaller f-number (since the far bank is not very far away) and should have focused at hyper-focal point. I forget to do that. Since this location is near me I think I can revisit and try out in a more relaxed manner.

From all the very poor ratings I was afraid I was the only person who liked this image - Thanks Mike and Pierre - you are the other two people :D.

  1. Hi John,

I was here in March. Great location but difficult subject in terms of lighting.

I just kept my camera on the ledge around the pool and angled it with a couple of guide books I had and let it fire on timer mode :). Seemed to work reasonably well.

  2. Terrific composition and colors.

I would like to know how you controlled noise (during shot as well as in Post-processing).

The picture appears amazingly noiseless for something shot at 6400 ISO (even for a web image of this size).

Thank you Richard. I guess I avoided reflections without much effort on my part (e.g. I didnt have a polarizer on me) - got lucky.

I will try to put up a larger version - but presently don't have access to it on my machine.

I love pictures like this, particularly in Black and White.

But whenever I put them up for critique the audience doesnt seem to really care for them.

Any case, beautiful. I like the color version too, but like this BW better!

    Lovely shot!

Where is this? Place looks very familiar (I was in Glacier NP recently - is it from there? Lake McDonald maybe?).

If its ok to ask, I would also like to know how you exposed, whether you used split ND and/or combined multiple exposures.

    Kudos!

  3. You are able to take a simple scene which we often pass by without noticing, and you create a composition out of it that is worth photographing and worth coming by and looking at.

Kudos. The poles lead the eye, lovely shades and light.

Lovely BW, tones, contrast, not to mention the subject (having both the horse and the man in the frame makes it more interesting to me rather than just the horse).

I am glad I landed on your page after following your comment in another person's photo.

    Great BWs.
