I like the representation here. Sometimes an image can be more than just technical skill. It can be humour, tongue and cheek etc.. perhaps this image is a good reminder of that. well chosen as photo of the day

At 43 years old, Rigo really is a gentle giant. Part of a captive breeding

program at Melbourne zoo, he's helping secure the survival of the western

lowlands gorilla, currently rated as critically endangered.

  1. This reminds me of a scene from an old movie. The editing effects in monochrome/sepia works very well to compliment the scene and create the mood you have here. Its an image that draws the viewer and makes them WANT to explore the photograph. well done

I liek the effort put into this shot. personally I find it difficult to achieve good results but I think you have done well overall. I like the sun light creating the shillouette. I'd only add that additional sharpness would make this a great image

Thanks everyone for your comments, I was very pleased with the way the image turned out due to the environmental conditions resulting from back burning. Dave I've inserted the original image for you to see this image is real. Cheers

this image has not been edited to remove colour. The effect of monochrome

are a result of heavy smoke in the air due to back burning.

    thanks for your thoughts

  2. Thank you all for your thoughts on this, they're much appreciated. Tommy, I agree with you, this image seems a little too symmetrical in terms of horizon placement. I did play around with the image increasing the space of the sky and cropping part of the foreground but there wasn't any interest to make me keep the extra sky and cropping the foreground seemed to take away interest from the foreground, so I decided to crop the image as you see it here. All that said, I recognise your point. I guess I was hoping that the off-center sun set would help break up the symmetry.
