I love the beauty of a natural smile! Very nice shot! Not your run of the mill forced pose or smile. LOVE IT!

While at work on this rig, I had the opportunity to take my new 5D mkII
out for its first photo journey. This is at sunrise following a brief morning
rain shower.

Thanks once again Fred for your comments.
On the downside of shooting these races with the 600mm on the crop sensor is the amount of usable frames. Perhaps 5 shots out of the gates before they are too close, and not enough time to switch to the other camera body before they are gone.

Thanks Fred,
I would have to go back through the program and see. I do know however that I cropped this photo on the right side to eliminate the tail of the leader. LOL So its safe to say that none of these 4 were getting their picture taken after the race.
If I remember right, both the wife and I lost on our wagers this race as well. LOL

Friday night of the MCBHS, there was a fantastic bullriding event.

Thanks David. I too like a more crisp, frozen action image. This was one of the late races of the day and I was in experimentation mode. I took quite a few of the more traditional high shutter speed shots that day. This shot I lowered the ISO to 200 to drop the shutter speed down in aperture priority. I did an 8x10 print of this shot last night, and it actually looks crisp other than the legs and dirt. Therefore I am assuming much of what we see here is compression. I have decided to avoid horse racing shots with the low shutter speed as the general concensus is to totally freeze the action. Back to ISO 800 I go. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Thanks Emmanuel. THe 40D did surprisingly well in AI servo with the subject moving toward me at full speed.

Although our track is not very pleasing to look at, I still have a grand
time shooting the race every Mother's Day. This shot is tighter than I
would have liked, but I was pleased to see "all fours" off of the ground at
once.
Thanks,
Derrick

Appreciate any comments or helpful suggestions. I know its a fairly tight
shot, but it is not a crop. Shot with 600mm f/4 IS.
Thanks,

Any thoughts folks?

Love It!

Marc,
I cannot say for sure what is going on. I do know that the male in the nest stays with that deceased famale 90% of the time. Only leaving to feed, etc. I really do not know why the other male is tugging her feathers, but I do know that a fight between the two males ensued. I was only able to capture two shots, but the males tumbled to the ground and squabbled with each other. Forgive me Marc, for bird behavior is not a strong point of mine. Thanks for your interest.
