Hi Lori, I hope you don't mind, but I took some liberties in critiquing your image. I have a Canon PowerShot A540 as one of my several cameras that I use a lot for doing macros. The A series is very easy to use to capture pictures like this. I read your thread in the forum regarding ratings so I wanted to help make this a "learning" moment for everyone. I am not an expert by any means, but I saw some things in your image I felt could be improved. So, I ran your image through PhotoShop CS3 and made some corrections. I don't know if you have imaging software or not and am not implying you should have PS. This is just what the difference is with some editing.

The base image is very good. A very good start to make it look even better. Your colors and tonality are very good, but the weather damage to the blossom takes away a lot of the inner beauty. There is also some noise. This can be improved by adjusting the type of light you are shooting under and make the appropriate settings in the camera. Many time I will shoot in the "cloud" mode even when I have good sunlight. It helps mute some of the washed colors and makes it less evident. You need to be in the "Program" mode to do this effectively.

I also cleaned up some of these blemishes and did some "spot" fixes. I hope you don't mind my critique. Here is the finished product. Mike

  1. Where do all of the beautiful blossoms go? Does the passion of our

photography go with them? As we have read "To every thing there is a

season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be

born and a time to die."

Let us all remember Spring's beauty as we move into the Solstice.

    All comments are welcome.

Interesting concept for capturing this image of a dandelion. It probably took you quite a while to pluck out the center of it. I like what you did . Very original and quite pleasing asthetically. Mike
