Thank you for your comments about my photo. :) I appreciate the feedback. I do agree that this would also be interesting in more muted color tones. I think it might draw more attention to the massive quantity of dew that is covering the grass. Maybe I will give that a try tomorrow and post a new version just to see a comparison. Funny, I had almost forgotten about this shot. Thanks again!

This is in Paynes Prairie Preserve by the Alachua Sink, the sinkhole
that drained Alachua Lake in less than two weeks back in 1856.
Millions of gallons of water still flow through the sink into the
Florida Aquifer daily.
Any critiques or ratings are appreciated.
Thank you.

This maybe still seems flat to me. I like the subtle water
disturbance around the snout. Any thoughts?
All comments and ratings are appreciated.
Thanks!

This is a lovely photo! I like the composition. I would not have cropped it at all. The flowers offer a nice pop of color and the branch makes a great line. You have a wonderful eye.

I am stuck for which species this is. If anyone has any ideas, please
let me know. :) Thanks!

Etoniah Creek
When I was looking up what kind of critter this was, I read that some
scientists are considering water striders as possible indicators of
mercury contamination in small freshwater systems. There is still
research to be done, but I thought it was interesting.
Any critiques or ratings are appreciated.

The gator on the left is the same one as in my post the other day.
The one on the right glided up, propped up his chin and took a nap.
This was more zoomed in and taken from a slightly different angle. I
like this one better. Any thoughts?
All ratings and critiques are appreciated.

Thanks to both of you for the constructive feedback.
I know that this isn't really a strong wildlife image. The alligator isn't doing anything particularly interesting. Its not zoomed in very close. I couldn't get any closer without going off a 12 foot drop down where there was this gator and about thirty of his friends. I love the color of the water and the contrast of the light brown of the shallows against the dark brown of the deep. I like how those colors are in big graphic blocks that are offset by the curves of the gator and the patterns in the sand. I don't mind the empty space but I wish that I could have put the gator on the other side. There was another one to the left so it wouldn't have worked. I still like this photo, but it's not really a favorite. I have some more from this sequence I haven't edited yet that I think are better. Hopefully I can post one of those today.
Thanks!

I am debating whether I should have shot this as a vertical. Any
thoughts?
All ratings and critiques are welcome.

Wow! Great shot. I like the DOF and the golden light. What an amazing creature. It must have been an awesome trip! Well done.

I came across these tracks while shooting in Crystal River yesterday.
This photo sums up a basic concept for me in that we must all share
this world and live alongside each other. I am not sure exactly what
animal made the tracks. They look like raccoon tracks to me, but I
have not looked that up yet.
Any critiques or ratings are appreciated.
Thanks!

I took this in Crystal River this morning. It is my first B&W
conversion in Lightroom. I will probably go back and tweak it at some
point. Any advice on how it could be done better would be great. Any
critiques or ratings are appreciated.
Thanks!

You certainly accomplished your goal. The speed is unmistakable. This is a fantastic photo and very unique IMO. Well done.

Great shot Kenneth! I like the DOF. The colors seem a tiny bit cold to me, but that is just my preference. Overall this is quite a visually pleasing photo. He must have been sitting in the patch awhile to get that kind of stain. :) Tidestick please!

I took this back in January. It is a young Tricolored heron hunting
in the waters of Paynes Prairie by the Alachua Sink. Any critiques or
ratings are appreciated.
Thanks!

You are right Ian. Thank you for the constructive advice. This isn't my favorite composition. It is a little awkward to have the bird in the far right looking right. There were many other birds to the right and I really had a hard time getting a nice composition of just one or two as opposed to a whole mess of them. Perhaps a square crop would be more flattering to this photo. I will give that a shot.

There was a group of these ibis in a tight pack. It was hard to get a
clean shot with out another bird's bottom in the way. This was a very
breezy day. Any critiques or ratings are appreciated.
Thanks!

This type of photography is light years away from what I do, but I can still find interest in it. In terms of the "lifeless" look, if this photo was executed to emulate old style paintings, then the pose and expression are appropriate IMO. I am find many things about this photo interesting. I wonder about the ribbon around her wrist, the dark nail polish and the wooden beads at her waist. I am intriqued by the subtle glimpse behind the lace at the shoulder. I also notice that the hands look considerably more lifelike than the facial area. It almost appears that far less PP work was done in that area. I am a little bothered by that on a personal level. I wonder if that was intentional and what the meaning would be. Overall this is a good photo, although it doesn't excite me personally. I looked through the rest of Joanna's portfolio and feel that she is very creative.

This white ibis worked hard for it's breakfast. I saw the first
catch. The ibis had the snake going down it's throat twice and twice
the snake managed to wiggle out. The third try was a charm...for the
ibis. To think only a couple minutes before this I was discouraged
and ready to quit and go home because nothing was really happening and
it was freezing cold. (for Florida) It just proves that patience is
a virtue. I still don't feel like I really have a handle on
Lightroom's color controls yet. Any critiques or ratings are
appreciated. Thanks!
