  1. Oh no, someone just demoted me to Newbie. 🧐
  2. Haha, I am a Pro and a Rookie...🥳 wow look at all the emoticon choices. Guess there is unlimited potential to move up. Rookie 🤔 Wondering what to choose on the hearting ❤️ a post. Seem choices are; wow iconic award, hahaha, ugh what, so sad I am crying. Maybe there could be a simple, hey I like it and a that's cool 😎.
  3. Well the new version of PN seems to be running though the galleries are down, so linked images from there are down. But I am sure that will be fixed. Let's try to start this week's Thread. It is time for this week's Canon Photo Thursday. This is your chance to share your epic, fun, cool, and/or interesting photo with everyone here on PN. Show us your vision, your style, your projects, your travels, adventures, photo missions or just something you shot that captured your fancy. You all know the drill, post one, two, three, or more photos shot from your Canon EOS Camera (SLR or DSLR or Mirrorless. Was your camera made by Canon? If so, post your shots). All are welcome to participate. Late postings are welcome. If you miss Thursday, feel free to add to the thread another day. Looking forward to seeing your shots. Pick up the camera and shoot something. Even if you didn't get out this week, you know you have some blast from the past stashed in your archives. We have a lot of regulars here reading. Jump in and post. Show us your shots. This shot is from a couple of nights ago camping in Joshua Tree. High aperture made the moon appear to look like a star. I believe I was using the Canon 14mm F/2.8 L with my 5D MKIV
  4. Hoping it works. Especially the photo forum posts where I shared my PN portfolio images using an embedded link to the image on PN. Will the URL change in the move? Will postings in Canon Photo Thursday just turn up as dead links? Guess we will see if this image can be seen after tomorrow.
  5. You are using a Nikon Lens on a Canon Camera body? Are you using an adaptor or did Nikon make lenses for Canon bodies? Perhaps the Nikon forum folks would have more experience. I am sure there are some fine glues to do the trick.
  6. Is Canon also changing lens mounts on the Cinema lines of cameras?

  11. Next time, just type the word LINK, highlight it, click the chain link symbol and paste the URL, that way the reader clicks the link, it takes them to the site and page, image, video where it is hosted on, a site that is not owned by Photo.net and Photo.net can not be accused of hosting copyrighted material. PN will not have to hire lawyers to fight some stupid lawsuit by some zealous attorney. Don't take it personal. In your case you are not being accused of saying someone's photo is yours or plagiarizing some ones work. It may be more of a PN doesn't want legal hassles. LINK it and no worries. ;) I am not a lawyer, nor have I ever played on on TV. I am not an admin here and have no policy making authority. I have been around a while and see no harm in working with the site. Regard it as an oppps can't do that warning. You weren't banned from the PN were you. It should be cool, live and learn.

  13. I read public viewing is 3.9 to 6 miles distance depending on location. I never photographed a launch. I did photograph one over skies of PA launched from Wallops Island, Maryland, their visitor center viewing is 7 miles from the island. Think about how many of the Space X rocket had mishaps.
  14. Perhaps Nasa rocket photographers aren't rocket scientists or they just don't care. Actually the photographer said he was outside the safety zone. How ever you want to interpret that. I wonder if a little heat shielding could have at least saved the Canon camera body. The camera and tripod was just a little too close to the rocket or at least the grass fire ignited by the rocket. Wonder what the PPA insurance thought. One small step for photographer...live and learn. Dear Canon, my camera over heated today...ouch, looks like Wile E Coyote"s Camera after lgniting an Acme Rocket. LINK .
  15. ;) I will be bummed when my DSLR no longer works and becomes " not repairable."
  16. If that is the case and a company like Sigma was still in the game then than that would be reassuring to me.
  17. Canon shutting down third party lenses for it new R camera line. Canon is using patent infringement to stop third party companies from producing lenses that could be used on their new cameras. Canon has the right of course; it is their design and patents. This of course will provide only one source for lenses unless you use Canons adapter for the older style lenses. It will ensure Canon won’t have competition in the lens market for their R mount lenses. Is it a good thing for Canon or will it deter photographers who are already feeling priced out of the new Canon Professional Mirrorless line from continuing with Canon when the time comes to give up the old 5D line? The new R5 and R3 are a bit pricey for some and the new high-end lenses are up there too. Now of course there are a lot of photographers who have no problem with the higher prices attributing it to inflation, and to a point this is true, and Canon does make good gear. For me, I am on my 7th Canon camera body, and I have purchased a good amount of Canon lenses though I will admit it has been nice to try other third-party lenses too. I have purchased a couple Sigma lenses, a Tamron and a Tokina. It’s nice trying different stuff and sometimes it is for something I don’t have a spare $2500 laying around to drop on a lens so a $1400 third party lens that has great image quality gives me a chance to play with a lens I may never play with otherwise. I will admit, I am not Daddy War Bucks. So really, I may never have bought that Canon 85mm f/1.2 new for a long time, but the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 was about half the price and was comfortably within reach. This lens gives me beautiful images. It is a tool. Now I have been dreaming of a new R5 as my next camera and maybe a couple new R lenses to start and of course I still have my old lenses. But it would be nice to know I would have the option to pick up a cool third-party lens if I so desired. Well, it looks like I wouldn’t have that option for a long time moving to the new Canon line. Then I look at Nikon, they are actively helping third party lens manufacturer make lenses for their new line. And there is Sony...plenty of choices. If people make the move to another brand camera, will they ever come back, or how long till they would? So, do you think this is a smart move for Canon? Is it a good move?

  19. So you were around Soho, did you see a werewolve with a Chinese menu in his hand, yes I'm talking about the werewolves of London. Ha. Gonna get a big dish of Beef Chow Mien.:p Back in the 70's I was intrigued seeing film night photography with colored lights, still am. Some place I have an exposed but undeveloped roll of 35mm 100ASA Motion Picture Film pushed to 400ASA shooting a rock band under colored lights in a club at night. Tried to find a place to develop it. Sadly none around anymore for this particular film. Guess it's similar to Kodachrome. Shot with an old Canon 35mm range finder.
