I grew up in Edmonton and would second the parks. Jasper is my personal favorite for landscapes and wildlife but I love Yoho and Baniff too. I think those have been pretty well addressed. Thinking about the western side of your trip Vancouver is a great city for people photography, I would think old China town, Gastown, and Stanley Park all come to mind. Some great markets there too. Also on the Western side a trip to Victoria can be a real treat with seascapes, a quaint city, and lots of interesting people to photograph as well. If you like gardens both Vancouver and Victoria are hard to beat. Another cool park is the Pacific Rim National Park.on Vancouver Island but hat's taking you farther afield.

I have used a 280T on all of those bodies and it has worked fine. I would guess you have a bad unit.

Another inexpensive option (provided you have a decent tripod) 500mm f4.5 Takumar (with a screw to K adapter)

On the battery issue: I agree, they don't last as long. But I can get 3 or 4 knockoffs for about the same price as a single genuine Pentax battery. If you are on a budget, the knockoffs are a good deal and they work fine.

Hi Valkyrie. I'm just back from New Zealand myself (brief visit this time). I know about your postage woes though. I was a former K10 user myself. It was a nice camera. The first nice thing is that all the current Pentax dSLRs use the same common battery. You can purchase generic batteries on the cheap as backups and that is always a good place to start. Two very good places to look for general info on Pentax equipment: Welcome to Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page and Pentax Forums - The Ultimate Resource for Everything Pentax The shipping issue I can't do anything to help with. I would guess there are a couple of shops in Auckland that would sell Pentax stuff, but wouldn't bet the farm on it. Obviously if you can get a low shutter count camera from a respectable international seller (KEH, B&H, Roberts, Adorama in the US) might be one approach that will get a camera. B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders www.keh.com to start. Doing a currency conversion you are talking about a US $600 budget. Remember, if you ARE buying overseas, try and get the GREY market warranty rather than the US warranty. It should be substantially cheaper to get the Grey market (international) warranty. The only current camera in your price range new looks like the K-70. I personally don't have it. It, like your K10 is a cropped body camera. It is a great time to buy lenses, especially used, if you want to get D lenses as many people are switching to full-frame lenses. As you live in NZ having a rain-proof lens feature maybe worth considering. As to WHAT lens, that may break the budget, but remember you don't HAVE to get everything at once. B&H and Adorama offer packages with body and lens that can be hard to beat new. Your lenses are made for that body, as will ANY K mount or with adapter M42 (screw mount). I take it you like your zoom for its convince. My first lenses were 50, then 35-80, and then a macro 100. Then the lenses started to pile up as I am a nature photographer and better lenses replaced the old. I would say a macro lens really opens up a whole world to you. If you want birds, consider the 55-300, there are three versions of this lens, old design not WP, WP, and new design. All are good lenses. We love NZ, short of shipping priceses I'm very envious. I am right there with you, why won't anyone answer this question. I have a few images I meant only to put up while I sold some gear, now I can't seem to take it down. I asked THE SAME QUESTION, "How can I take down images?" A while back I asked the same question and my question was actually deleted. Not only is it frustrating, but it got me pretty upset. As a hobbiest, this site has been a pleasant distraction and way to enjoy my hobby as well as a useful tool. But like so many others, I'm hoping this reboot starts to make sense for my type of photography.

Hi All. I will be traveling to the Galapagos Islands with my class. I shoot nature and landscapes mainly, but since I will also have students with me I'll need to get some people shots in as well. I am in a quandry as to what to take largely because of general travel issues on the boat and hikes. I am a fanatic tripod user so that will come regardless. I am most likely to bring my Pentax K1 (full frame) but I also have a K3 and Kiis (later two are cropped bodies) My longest lens will stay home (600mm f5.6 A) , but I'm struggling between 1) Pentax 150-450 2) Pentax 55-300 version I or 3) 300mm f4.5 A +TC. I have kicked around the idea of the new 55-300 and sell the old one if the lens is that much better. I always bring a macro (100mm f2.8 DAW) and then on the wise side maybe a 20mm f28 A for Astro photographty (we should have a couple over nights on islands) and A) a 20-35 FA (if I bring the K1) B) 24-90 FA, or C) 18-55 WR is I bring the K3. I'm really struggling over the 150-450; I love the lens, but am concerned about weight. In addition I intend to bring polarizers. and regular cleaning gear, maybe 4 batteries, etc. I want the best images I can come back with, especially wildlife, but I'd love to hear from someone who has experienced the tour themselves. Jasper is going to be a blend of Mountains, large wildlife, and wildflowers. The answer is you need a little of everything.

I posted this question and it seems to have disappeared. I uploaded something on my site that I no longer wish to have up. After struggling with this I haven't been able to figure out how to take down images. Please advise.

I am one of those oldies who is having a tough time with the new format. I'm not going to belabor the issue as many others have said their peace better than I. I have read and understand the programming issues, so I get it, it's just as a full time professor I can't really invest the time to start all over again. I'm not sure if I will stick around,either, but because I have invested so much time here and uploaded almost 2,000 images to my portfolio I am going to see if I can come around.. In the meantime there are several images I do want to delete and now, seemingly, I can't get rid of them. Can someone give me the crib-net instructions how to delete them? Many thanks. Doug

There are adapters for both 67 to K and 67 to 645. When I still had it I rarely used 67 lenses on K3 and KIIs. I's kind of the case of the tail wagging the dog though. Everything is manual, of course.There is a Pentax version and generics for the 67 to K. Check out on ebay, lots of options.

I'm pretty frustrated too. I can't find old photos, even one of my galleries! I can't remove photos, what a mess.

Hi Michael. Actually it was a K3 using 1 150-450 +1.4 TC. I was shooting out of a car window so it was sitting on my rental's mirror. My ISO was 800 (I believe) and I was shooting the lens wide open.

A friend told me there are going to be tougher regulations about allowing camera batteries in cameras or even as carry on. Its been a while since I've flown and will have a domestic flight Monday as well as a bunch of international fights coming up. I wanted to do everything as carry on. Further,I don't like the thought of having to separate and check in just my batteries. Is this a rumor or is there any validity to this?
