Hi Bob,
I think I might have figured out the issue. I didn't agitate the tank nearly as vigorously for this batch of negatives then for my first batch that turned out fine. What do you think?

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my last batch of negatives. In
the sky of the picture that I posted, what looks like clouds in the sky, are
actually something else. The sky was completely clear the day I shot these
pictures. All 12 negatives that I shot on the same day and developed in the
same tank have this issue. The patterns are very different on each negative.
Here's what I'm using:
Burke & James Orbit 4X5
Fujinon 135
Arista Ultra ISO 200
Yankee Agitank daylight tank with 12 exposure capacity
D-76 and Kodak fixer
My first batch of still-life shots came out fine.
The tank was loaded properly, so none of the negatives were touching each other.
What do you folks think?
Thanks

Hi,
I've got a half-gallon carton of Kodak fixer that has been sitting around for
about one month. Is this stuff still good, or should I mix some new fixer.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm looking for a good online store to buy used large format equipment for my
newly purchased Burk and James Orbit. Since I'm new to large format, I'm
looking for a site that provides good customer service. Who should I be looking at?
Thanks

Thanks everyone for the advice. The camera came with three packs of old film that I'll use to practice with.

Hi,
I've never loaded 4X5 film holders and will be using a changing bag. When
you're taking the film out of the package, which side do you load into the film
holder? Or, does it really even matter.
Thanks

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I haven't tested the film yet. The camera is still in the process of being shipped.

Thanks for your reply Jeff. They guy who owned the camera before me used it while he was in the Navy. Also, I have plenty of other cameras and I wanted to play around with this one just to see if I could bring it back to life.
I just need to know what tools and materials will be needed to work on the camera and where to purchase them. Also, any online help on doing a CLA on this camera would be great as well.

Hi,
I just got a large format camera that came with three packets of film that is
dated 1978. The film is Kodak color Ektachrome 50 & 64, and Kodak Super XX pan.
This is my first LF and I wanted to use the film for practice. I'm sure the
color is going to be way off, but I was thinking I could convert the image to
B&W in Photo Shop and get a usable image.
Any recommendations on how I should shoot this stuff? Any exposure compensation
needed?
Thanks

Hi,
My local camera guy said it wasn't worth having my FTb QL CLA'd because the
light meter is broken. I was thinking about doing it myself. Specifically, I
need to replace the light seals, and I'd also like to open the camera up and
clean and lube.
What stuff do I need and where can I get it?
Thanks

Hi,
I was bored today, so I decided to pick up a B&J ORBIT 4x5 Monorail view camera
w/ILEX No. 4 ACME SYNCHRO with 6 film holders, 1 polaroid holder and a bunch of
other stuff.
The auction said it was in great condition. BTW, did I mention I know nothing
about large format photography.
What can folks tell me about this camera and lens? Also, can I substitute other
lenses? If so, what do I need to know?
Much thanks, and I hope I made a good decision on my fist large format camera.

Thanks everyone. These were great responses.

If it makes a difference, let me add that I use a changing bag.

Hi
I've been using the Yankee Master for developing 35mm and it has been great.
Today I tried using it to develop a role of 120 film and it took me 20 min. to
get the film onto the reel.
Is there a film developing tank brand that someone can recommend that it easier
to use with 120 film?
Thanks

I just got a great copy of this lens for my FTb QL. But, I guess I was under
the wrong impression about how this lens operates. With the FD lenses, the
little circular part that you match to the light meter's needle when adjusting
the aperture moves accordingly. With the FL lens, it doesn't.
Is this because the FL lens wasn't designed for this, am I doing something
wrong, or is there something wrong with the lens.
If the lens is working properly, how would you recommend using the camera's
meter with this lens, if possible?
Thanks

I've often wondered if you could get LIS and BIS to work together to double its effectiveness.

I've been looking at purchasing the 85mm 1.8 on ebay and wanted to know what the
difference is between it and the SSC version. On www.mir.com it says about the
New FD 85mm "stress was placed on enhancing this lens' full aperture
capabilities." I like that idea.
Should I go for the New FD version?

Great responses everyone. I went ahead and got the 1.2 from KEH and picked up the 1.4 from ebay. Can't wait to get these lenses and compare them to my 1.8.
-
Wow, thanks for the quick responses. I should have given you more information up front in my original question. I have the EF 50mm 1.4 that I use with my Elan 7NE and digital SLR's and I'm very pleased with its performance.
I want use my AE-1 Program for family/low light shots and I'm currently using the 50mm 1.8 and Fuji 1600 ISO black and white film. The FD 50mm 1.2 looked really attractive to me for this reason. How does it compare with the 1.8? Do they look about the same at equivalent apertures?
Thanks
-
I've been trying to find opinions on the Canon FD 50mm 1.2 (non-L). There's
not much out there on the internet. I'm looking at getting one from KEH.
What do folks here think about this lens? Also, could someone point me to some
photos taken with this lens?
Much thanks.

Thanks for the advice and thanks for pointing me to Alien Bees. After reading some other reviews in the web, I think I'll go with their system.
