1.
Hi,

I am using Photoshop CS2 and DNG Converter 5.6.0. It was working fine I used to open the NEF files without any issue. But now for some days I cannot open NEF file and getting error that format is unsupported.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong in DNG Converter? Also please let me know what Compatibility option to choose in the DNG Converter?

Thanks and regards,

 2.
Nathan this always happens to me, my interest in outing is only for photography. And, just recently I was ever-happy-ready to went mountains just for photography, I mean that trip was dirt if I had not brought my gear with me.

My other signs related to this post:

a) Shelves, cabinets are filled with camera related stuff (I collect classic cameras too, have around 20 of them)
b) Spend majority of time on photography forums, galleries etc.
c) In my mind always think that I am in the viewfinder and evaluate different compositional adjustment and light conditions.
d) My wife is totally sick-and-tired of this madness.
e) The major chunk of my saving goes to related stuff.
f) I get very upset with my daughter when she doesn't 'cooperates' with me on photographing her (making her still is one of the hardest thing).
g) Unknown urge to visit the local zoo again and again.
h) When job is affected with photography and boss points out that you are giving more attention to photography than to work.

I am sure there are more for me but right now I cannot concentrate much.

 3.
I really dont like flash, in built or external, it makes flat and unnatural. I raised the ISO and it all looked very improved.

My question is what is the remarkable difference in ISO 100 and 800? Raising the ISO to that extent deteriorates the quality?

What other improvements do you suggest?

Regards,

 4.
Photograph is not Good or Bad.

Photograph is a document, an evidence. It's a reality; in my opinion its the viewer's mindset who declares it Good or Bad. Photograph can be categorized as Artistic, when perceived one level higher than a document, and, that again is based on viewer's thinking i.e. some may classify a photograph as a work of art and some as just a document.

Would be happy if you put my statement on a firing range :)

 5.
Hello,

There is a photography competition announced in the newspaper. The subject is:

Gender Equality for Decent Employment (emphasis on women)

One of the rules of the competition is:

Entries will only be accepted in digital format (colour or black and white) that must not have been digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way.

In your opinion what you perceive as digitally enhanced or manipulated?

Regards,

 6.
Thank you all for great comments. Its always better to have opinion, ideas, and suggestions from this community.

I read that the most appropriate way to B&W a photograph is to shoot in the color mode and then B&W it in Photoshop. Based on this, I don't know whether it is the right thread to discuss on the best-practices of converting color photograph into black and white.

 7.
I think now its high time to create two groups. 1) Photography: No manipulation is permitted - as Richard Snow mentioned - other than basic color correction, cropping, sharpening, and softening. The message and the essence of the photography must be there. 2) Artography: Sky is the limit. Do whatever you want. Make it or break it as per your fantasy.

But please, for the God sake, do not mix both. Let something remain original in this world. Let make photographers judged by their own skills and eye, not by Photoshop.
