1.
Didn't even consider the CF card issue. Don't even think I've got any laying around anymore either. Using the same batteries in the 7000/7100 makes sense to me, but batteries are relatively cheap so getting a couple for the D90 is probably possible. I have a bit of time. A D300 would still be a CF issue, so that's probably moot too. I've handled the D90, it's not a bad camera, but I've had a D5100 which has the same sensor as the D7000, so I know the IQ will be good.
Thanks for the advice. I think I might have to squeeze out for the 7000 and fall back on the D90 if need be.

    D90 vs D200

I agreed to help with an event. I know the pitfalls of such an act, but I want to have a backup to my D7100. So, looking around, I can pick up a mint D200 or for $100 more a pretty good D90. I'm thinking the D90 would be more familiar since it's 2 versions back from the D7100, but the D200 is/was a good camera. A little D2X they used to call it and I don't think the 2 megapixel difference between cameras is going to be that much of a difference and I'll be using flash, so I don't think low light would be an issue as well. And my glass is 1.8 - 2.8 anyway. Before you ask, a D7000 would be about twice as much and if I don't have to push for it, I won't.
Thanks

  3.
Has anyone had a problem installing the updates? I have. Illustrator won't update for some reason. And Bridge too. Everything else has though.

  4.
Pretty neat from a glance. See it HERE.
Oh yeah, $599

  5.
Kind of defeats the purpose. Epson creates those profiles based on the paper that you choose.Epson sort of makes it brainless for you to get the best print using whatever paper you're using.
Found below on the web.
In the 3880 Printer Setup screen, check the option regarding "Print Quality" click the down v symbol, and select "Quality Options" and use the slider at the top to select the desired Quality. The options will depend on the Media you have selected. Example, for Epson Matte Paper -- there are 3 options 3, 4, or 5 which list the applicable resolution.

  6.
I use an Epson 11880 with the same ink and I don't have a problem with fading. I have a piece under fluorescent lighting for a couple of years and it still looks vibrant. You could look into a different vinyl. I use Magiclee PPM7 all the time. It's flat, no tooth like scrim. I set the paper to Double Weight Matte. Works like a charm. I also use Phototex which is an adhesive low tacked back. Stick 2 from Magiclee is pretty good adhesive back too.

  7.
View->Tools->Print Production, then Output Preview. This should show you what's embedded, but you can simulate other models as well. You can run the Pre-flight panel as well to check your settings.

  8.
I jumped on Yosemite when it was available and it was a nightmare for me at first. Ending up having to reload from scratch. It ran terribly as an upgrade, super slow to install, then ran like molasses. I was able to save my data, so backing up is important if you're going to do this. What I will say is that since I did a clean install, it runs flawlessly since then. No issues. This happened on a Macbook Pro Late 2011 model. There were many people I've known that had no problems at all. By now I would think they should have most of the bugs out.

    Kaylyn Sepia

Lovely face. Great eyes, great makeup, nice and subtle, really makes her eyes pop. Great lips, almost like she's ready to snarl, kiss or smile. The broken elbow on the right doesn't bother me too much because I think it would have ruined the crop if you left it in. Not crazy about the sepia though. I like sepia, I just think it should have been a little deeper on this one. More contrasty, because the white bar behind her is somewhat distracting to me because it's not consistent all the way across. Don't get me wrong. I like this photo. I rarely comment on photos any more, so for you to get this much of my attention is a high compliment.
  10.
You can get many Windows programs to run on Linux using WINE, which is an emulator. I never tried CC, but I've gotten CS6 to work on Linux.

  11.
I get very good results with an Epson V600. Even with film. I scanned these old negatives (some 80 years old) I found using nothing but automatic settings. No post processing done.

  12.
D7100 prices have dropped. Originally they were $1200, you can get one now for $996, brand spanking new. Seems like shelf clearing to me. A used one for $700+/-. It's a great camera. I'm not looking to upgrade when the new version comes out.

  13.
Has anyone used this combo (or similar) without using an external AC power supply? If so, how long did the batteries last for you (camera and recorder)? I have to do a five hour event (1/2 break in middle) and I'm wondering if this will last if I have two batteries a piece.

Thanks.

  14.

Share what you like.

It's more important for people to share what they don't like as well. I found it confusing at first and normally, I wouldn't waste my time trying to figure out what's going on. Then, you have the photos with the captions on the left and then a pop up with the same text. Didn't make sense to me. I'd rather see the photo across the screen with the pop up option. The photos themselves are interesting, but overall, it's almost overwhelming to get through.

  15.
Owing a D7100, I went with a Tamron 17-50mm non-vc and it's my go to lens most of the time. The Sigma is just as good, but cost more. I also have and like the Nikon 35mm 1.8. Really sharp and excellent to learn with as it is considered a "normal view" lens of about 50mm with the crop ratio. I like the Nikon 70-200mm, but it's really expensive. I tried the Tamron 70-200VC and it's pretty darn good and about $1000 less than the Nikon. I almost bought the Tokina, but went with a Tamron 10-24mm 3.5-4-5 because I found an excellent one at KEH.com, who by the way sells excellent used equipment, and it's really sharp between F/5.6 and F/8. I've bought from KEH more than once and have not been disappointed. For lightweight tripod I went with Dolica which came with a pretty good ball head.

  16.
You can buy a D7100 for under a grand now. Under $900 actually. I like the focusing on the D7100, but it still needs good lenses to use well.

  17.
5 years Canon waited. The D7100 is going on two. February 2013 is when it came out. The D7000 came out in 2010. I don't see anything coming down the pipe that quickly. There's no reason to.

  18.
The Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 comes in 2 flavors. Vibration Controlled (VC) and non-VC. I have the non-VC version which is considered the sharper of the two. It's my go to walk around lens and I like it very much. The Sigma is equally as good, I think, and focuses pretty fast. The Tamron is sharpest between f/5.6 and f/8, IMO, but wide open I've gotten very good results.

  19.
KEH has a bunch of used SB-600's. Most in excellent condition. Most people may disagree, but I've found my Vivitar DF-583 to quite satisfactory for when I need a flash. Which is not often. It works off camera and is quite bright. I normally have to turn it down. With some Eneloop batteries I get plenty of recycles that last for hours.

  20.

I'm a big fan of landscape photography CA has more to offer in that regards.

Have you ever been to NY? We have landscapes for every season and each landscape in its season has something to offer. NY is huge. Don't get locked into just the island of Manhattan and think you've seen it all. Other than that, what Stephen said.

  21.
I'm surprised no one mentioned that the D7100 has a 1.3 crop mode which will bring everything even closer. Ends up being almost doubled. And it makes the focusing points fill the frame that way as well. And it increases the burst rate.

  22.
Also, page 88 of your manual has instructions for cleaning.
https://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r2400_/r2400_ug.pdf

  23.
You need to clean the platen. Some people have had success by putting in a sheet of paper with about 3 inches of alcohol across the page and keep running it through until the page comes out clean. Not soaking wet, just wet. the paper is probably sliding because the rollers are not gripping. Also, make sure your using the right paper thickness setting on the printer. If the gap is too wide, the paper will move.

  24.
You can compare with DPReview's side by side, but the quick answer is....no. Then read the conclusion of the 600D's review for more details.

  25.
You could probably find a good used SB-600 as well for under $200.
