  1. It's an extraordinary composition with great light. The sunburst on the peak is excellent. The dead parts of the plant take up quite a bit of the lower half and just detract slightly for me. I'd love to see the same image when the plant was fresh. I wonder if it would be any good in black & white, just a thought.

    Cheers & Best wishes, Dave.

  2. Lovely image Alf,

It stands out for the strong composition with the diagonal lead in from the right and it looks as though you de-saturated everything but the colour left behind by the retreating sun which also works well. The figure does add more interest.

I must admit I wouldn't have noticed without the reference to the figure as the thief out of those ads, but when you mentioned it I remembered those posters. They always made me wonder why a thief would be concentrating on doing an Irish jig rather than just legging it.

Well done & best wishes, Dave.

The reason this image is rated at 4.5 is because there is a bunch of people on here who have nothing much better to do with themselves. Leaving endless low ratings relieves their boredom while they are sat dribbling in their armchairs at the carehome wondering whats for tea.

Oops sorry for the rant. Back to the picture. I have to say Dave, I've seen this a few times now and it catches my eye everytime. It's the clarity of the near tree against the misty background. The only thing that puts me off is I'd like to see the whole tree against the mountain. It not only would look neater but also give you some idea of the scale. The view here seems cut off and maybe it was impossible to show anymore without including major distractions but I would love to see the grander view. Hope this is helpful.

    All the best, Dave.

    Beautiful Stephen,

The bright whites of the mountain against the dark black of the sky is very effective and dramatic. And of course the virgin snow all apart from the tracks. The only small niggle was that the horizon caught my attention and seems to be slightly on the slant but thats a minor detail.

    Best wishes.

Beautiful work Maurizio and very well processed. I can't offer much in the way of feedback on how to improve this. I do think it would be interesting to see alternative versions with a faster shutter speed and not so much motion blur in the waves. I know it would be difficult to achieve but to see the waves actually running onto the path might just add a little more to what is already a very dramatic shot.

    Cheers and best wishes.

  3. Lovely shot Rodney,

Those rocks on the right hand side make for a very nice diagonal pulling you in and the BW conversion is excellent. I just wonder if the foreground might sharpen up a little more (it wouldn't need to be much) although it's possible the upload process has robbed a bit.

    Cheers, Dave.

    Lovely image Gary,

The colouring of the sky and the lines of the clouds and the line of surf all work very harmoniously. One very minor thing is it looks a little oversharpened on my monitor, but as I say it's a minor thing and doesn't detract too much. 6 from me.

    Best, Dave.

    Lovely story Alf,

Being from West Yorkshire, I have worked with a few ex miners and heard some of the tales. Have only ever been down the pit at NCM Wakefield though and think I am happy to keep it to that. Lovely shot as well by the way.

    All the best, Dave.

  4. Excellent, the lines on the building combined with the sky and perspective give a dizzying sense of motion. The processing is excellent also, I think I've seen this building somewhere before.

    Regards, Dave.

Firstly beautiful light and crisp reflections. I know how difficult it can be to get the conditions just right. My only point would be that I'm not sure the scene fits this format quite so well. There is in my opinion a little too much dead space in the foreground. I think a 50/50 sky/ foreground may have worked better, maybe you tried this anyway. But better still I know I would have taken three shots in portrait format and later stitched them and cropped to square to leave the end of the point of land 1/3 into the frame. I realise the square format is not favourable to everyone but it is very versatile in that you can later crop to either portrait or landscape if you need to and still have the native filesize, so in effect you are covering all the bases. I hope this is helpful to you and this is certainly an eye-catching shot.

    All the best, Dave.

  5. Yes, this definitely fits the bill Mark. That swirling mist in the curve of the hillside gives the impression of a rising blizzard. I think the highlights through the clouds really come into their own on this version also, I would have loved to have been there to watch this.

    Merry Xmas,

    Dave.

  6. It's good to see a shot from one of the less popular areas. It looks like you didn't get the best background lighting but did an admirable job nonetheless. I'm hoping to get a few shots of Windermere over the Winter.

    Hi Arturas,

Sorry for the comment above, couldn't resist.

I liked it as well. Despite the title it was the light through the cloud that grabbed my attention. The lighting and contrast are also excellent.

Another lovely composition Zsolt, the delicate colours in the sky and the mist over the peaks is fantastic but I find the red in the grass looks a bit on the strong side.

Dave.
