    Are you using button assigned to FV lock to pre-meter? It's been many years since I've needed to use the feature, but used it years ago with my D3 and SB800 for weddings. As far as I can remember, the flash value locks until you press the button again. Apologies if that's a bit vague, but it's been a long time since I used that particular setup.
