    Crossing... 70

          12

Another beautiful and interesting "daily life" photograph Ruud. In a country with so many bicycles, I was curious if they were mostly domestically manufactured or imported? They do seem to have a similar style so I was thinking the bikes were domestic.

    Warm regards

    Grand Canyon

Stunning photograph - It is how I recall the canyon back when I last saw it in '73. Curious about the shooting conditions Joshua. So many recent photos of Grand Canyon reveal some degree of haze in the atmosphere and your image is quite clear. It looks like it might have rained the day prior to your visit, do you think that may have "washed out" some of the haze? Was there any visible haze when you took the photo? If there was haze, where you able to minimize it in post production and how did you go about it? Again, beautiful photograph, lovely color and detail.

  1. Grumman F4F Wildcat upon returning from a formation flight with a P-40 Warhawk and another similar Wildcat. Later in the day they went back up to welcome a P-51 Mustang that was flying in for the day.

Grumman F4F/FM-2 Wildcat was a dependable and trustworthy front line fighter used by Navy and Marine Pilots throughout the Pacific during WWII. Very much loved by pilots and maintenance crews.

  2. "Whistling Death" was a name given by the Japanese, in the South Pacific, for the F4 Corsair. The Corsair made a distinctive sound as it dove down on enemy positions in Okinawa and other South Pacific islands. The F4 was used in shore based service initially, by U.S. Marines, while the aircraft was refined  for Naval carrier defense.

  3. I had seen good reviews about this burger joint over the past year or so and had meant to try it out. This place has a "hole in the wall" vibe but is clean and neat. The food is made to order and takes about ten minutes to prepare. Bonus - there is a Mediterranean background to this restaurant which allows for some interesting food items to explore. Their meat is Halal which brings a unique diversity of customers not found at your run of the mill Texas burger joint. The burger was great - cooked over an open flame and seasoned well, something other than just salt and pepper.

  4. Kinda like peanuts in your Coke, Moon Pie's go splendidly well with Royal Crown Cola. I had to make a quick trip out to Ben Wheeler, Texas on Sunday and thanks to Brent Hale, artist from nearby Tyler, Texas, and the good folks of Ben Wheeler who commissioned this work I was able to get a couple interesting photos along the way. The town of Ben Wheeler, Pop. 400+, is going through kind of an artistic revival and Brent always wanted to do something with the inspiration he got from 1930's-40's advertisements. I think he did a fine job capturing the nostalgia of the era and I look forward to more of his work.

In case you have never tried a Moon Pie and RC Cola .... you should, just once.

  5. I am noticing that the full size version of this image (click image to see full size) is quite a bit more saturated than the initial image above (prior to clicking) and that the initial image is again more saturated than the sRGB file that I exported and uploaded. Frustrating ....

Anyway, the robin got her worm moments after the click.
