I use Canon's 300mm f/4 IS for birds, most often with the 1.4 extender attached. Sharp lens, good price.

I use the Canon 24mm f/2.8, light weight, sharp, and cheap.

Why not try the 24mm f2.8 prime? Good speed, resonably sharp, and dirt cheap. (Zoom with your feet.)

Go to alibris.com web site. Search on subject: "world war photo".

Nikon USA is spending heavily on advertising, full page color ads in regional newspapers for the D300. Today's Seattle Times was included, a rare event for that paper.

On Ebay search "canon wireless release." The Hong Kong specials work well and they're cheap.

Try a used Canon 20D or 30D and Canon's 24mm F2.8 lens which is small, light weight, cheap and sharp.

An interesting article in the NY Times, 1/18/08, here's one quote:
"The time was, we thought of photographs as recorders of reality. Now we know
they largely invent reality."

It's possible the 3200 dpi setting is "beating" against the film grain. If your scanning software includes a "descreening" filter, that may also work for you.

I would try and hit the Olympic coast but timing (luck?) is everything. Before and after winter storms you can have wonderful lighting in the p.m. Yesterday's "pineapple express" does not happen very often but it closes many roads. Be prepared.

Yes, Mario, the same.

Do an Ebay search on "canon wireless remote." The $20 version from Hong Kong works perfectly for me.

Scan in RGB color. Disregard the B/W option.

I use the "YoungNuo" from an Asian dealer, purchased on Ebay. Works like a charm.

If you're able to, get closer to ground level. The ice background is tough to balance against the uniforms and faces. Better to have the far side of the rink as background.

Light box on a copy stand, macro lens on a DSLR, fast and simple.
-
Fast, wide angle prime lens.

"Slide duplicator" attachments for 35mm cameras have been available for years. Maybe one could be made to work on a DSLR. An Ebay search indicates there is still a market for them.

Some of you might enjoy the Errol Morris photography Blog in the NY Times, although it's a lot to wade through, parts are very interesting. Link:
