Are there any other electrical devices, small motors, etc. in operation nearby?

There is a discussion here that might help you:

"Not any more rainy than anywhere else on coastal WA state, but everything drips in there. And if the rivers are full you'll need waders and walking poles as well."
The Hoh RF gets 200 inches of rain annually. Further down the coast the rainfall is 1/3 that.
-
And don't forget your raincoat.

Excellent. More competiton for Canon at the high end. Get those prices down.

Many people, pro and otherwise, use the UW arboretum.

Try using the spotmeter, then average a series of readings. I use the same meter. Good investment.

try:

Start here: http://www.photo.net/learn/sports/overview
Then practice.

Bob, wonderful response.

You can mix color and B&W prints in a single exhibit but not randomly. Have a layout or pattern in mind. Make all color prints one size and all B&W prints another size. One type should dominate, for example, 1/3 B&W and 2/3 color. Your subject matter will suggest the correct balance.

Please do some people shots, say head to shoulder length.

Today's NY Times, front page:

Interesting ring flash, looks home made.

I use one for birds, with an IS lens, example:

Mine also qualifies for the free ride to Canon, but heck, it works perfectly and now it's a collector's item. Think I'll just keep it.
-
Mine is relatively quiet, just a bit of clunk with the AF. No loud noises at any time. Fine lens, very sharp.
-
If you want good DOF control, dump that kit lens. At 35mm and 50mm on the D20 Canon has inexpensive, very good alternatives. You need a WIDE aperture.

Ellis, I don't have the time to list my problems with Bridge, but you can get an earful at Adobe's Bridge user forum. I think this link may work:
-
CS2 Bridge is worthless, surely designed by committee.
-
Public parks are good, zoos also because the birds are captive.
-
Try the NY Public Library, Reference Desk.

I agree, "On Photography" is great reading. I've done so four times, Phil G's review notwithstanding, but his view is narrowed by his technical background.
