  1. in fact! Cuaght my eye even as a small thumbnail. I think it looks real because the yellows in front say "this pic is not off colour" and I like the contrast between the two complementaries very much. Were the yellows even more yellow in reality?

Just a thought if it is still not looking as you feel it should - is your monitor calibrated?

    Hello Cris

I am an aspiring quilter. I also take the occasional abstract shot, in an amateurish way, of lines and forms.

But *you*, oh my, do it all in a way I would love to aspire to...excellent, truly excellent.

What a superb collage. Do you quilt sir, she asked, tongue in cheek....

    Happy New Year !

    Ransford,

Hi! Well, I regret to confess that Image stabilisation I gots, and it STILL came out like this. This is a classic result from Mrln not realy knowing how to drive her camera to best ability. I LOVED the colours on this - taken a few mins after the crocii in fact, but I think I had the shutter speed too slow in an attempt to get the light on a windy day - with a silly macro lens as well!! The primroses in the same group were taken later that day and came out a lot better - not waving around in the breeze so much of course, either.

A bit more mastery, and this would be a killer shot. As it staqnds, I agree with you 100%. I leave it up there blurred and all, because the colours *still* are wonderful to my eye, and I use it as a sort of colour inspiration pic!!

  2. Thank you very much. This is a cement plant (I think?) near Redmond, Washington. I saw it on a drive by shooting of Christmas lights, and decided it was the star of the show. I finally got to take a shot of it several nights later. I am too impatient, and the lack of a tripod did not help - this was the best of a bunch of some pretty blurred shots! I will eventually give in to the tripod requirement, because I love the light n colour effects of the longer exposure. I cropped this pic a tad and threw a little blue into the shadows - other than that my camera did it all by itself.

Well I didn't see the original debate, but my eye was hugely drawn to this thumbnail. close up is even better. What i want to know is if you won anything at the contest....its such a compelling picture. Well done.

Shot in Leavenworth, inside a mad shop called Kris Kringle - dedicated (you will not surprised to know) to all things christmassy...hand held, and John, I claim no victory here of my own making - PS'ed (not much) to get the lines on the sides straight ...(not much). I think I agree a border would help, although I am not usually a fan of them. When I learn how to do borders, maybe I come back and try them on this one.

    Thank you both.

I agree - my first reaction when I saw this was "hubble"..and since I go around collecting hubble pictures, you can guess i really likd this one!! Mother of pearl / shells / abalone also being one of my very faves! Well done.

Lovely light in this one. I would personally crop the lower left leaf out, as i think that pulls the rest of the pic into sharper focus and keeps the softness for the background - just my personal taste. You can see from the comments that some people prefer it and some don't, no rights or wrongs about it. Good work!

A ceiling, yes indeed - I hadn't really realised how much activity this place had on its ceilings until I looked at the pics I took all together - busy busy busy - its enough to make one's head spin, and that's not from looking up!
