Thanks for all the supportive comments so far. Yes I was at 32mm here. I shot this heron for a while the three heron shots with similar backgrounds to this are all this guy. He hung around for quite some time. In nature its all about being calm and not showing yourself as a threat to them. They read your body language better then any person out there.... they survive by it.Again thanks for the supportive comments

  1. I like the comp. Those reds like that are hard to find near the water normally those colors are found high in trees. I also like the contrast the, is it an egret? shows to the background. Its a nice natural shot. Well Done

Ive seen some amazing shots from the VR and I will be getting a VR lens soon, the 80-400 is actually classified by nikon as a "VR2" I believe. Its their second generation VR technology supposedly better even then the first. The only thing I have heard is sometimes it over reduces so like when your on a tripod u need to turn off the VR. But yeah id suggest it.

Very very nice. I don't think it has some of the subtly that your dragonfly pictures or the unique angles of some of your other macro work. But the detail here is amazing and that earns it the 6's all on its own.

Im assuming this was done on a white backdrop? I love the color and detail in t fly and the green in the flower is such a nice contrast with the fly and it pulls the flower off the background better then just the offwhite flowers.

Wow. I love it. what comes to my mind here is not adolescent alien but Baby alien. The slight blur in the eyes works to give an almost warm and caring look to the little fella. And normally I dont like large open spaces. I am a fan of tighter cropping but for this photo it really works to show perspective of size. On the crop the only thing i woulda done is kept him a tiny bit higher in frame not centered but the purple below him makes a better background then the black above so more of it would be better, but that is REALLY nitt-picking. Great shot.

5/6 Another Fantastic image My only insight here would be to tilt the frame just a bit. The way the wings are fashioned it gives off a semblance of symmetry. If you line up the tail to be parallel with the side I personally feel it would be much better....but its still fantastic as is.

4/7 I love this picture. But with such a shallow depth of field I agree with the above comment I think if the shot was cropped tall it would be that much better The 4 is only because of the crop with a better crop id go 6/6 easily....if I may....

I much prefer a crop like this...there is no dead space to draw you away from the subject.....Oh and PS I love the Narrow Depth of field here!

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I am maxed out at 300 too. I am hoping to get Nikon's 80-400 sometime in the near future but it will probably still be a while.

Ummm Im really not sure. Ive seen some photos like this and have likedthem, but I'm not really sure the trick to it. This was my firstattempt at it really. What do you think? How could I get a moredemanding shot in this type of photography?

I cropped this image from a landscape to a portrait and I am wonderingdid I take out too much of the water? What do you think?

    All Comments appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Great shot may I ask what lens you used for this was it a macro or a long zoom? I've tried shooting dragon flies with, moderate levels of success myself, with a 70-300mm. Also what were the specs on this shot? Keep it up. Im sure at your new place you will find much to photograph still.

Fantastic picture. Thank you for the information on how this happens too. Do you have the specs for what settings you took this shot on?

And for those of you who say "Ive seen ice burgs they don't look anything like this." If you see a picture of an alligator coming almost its entire body length out of the water to catch a bird but have never SEEN that, are you saying it doesn't happen? Its called specific conditions.

    ibis

These are wood storks not ibis. I could be wrong depending on where you shot this. But they look like wood storks who live in South Florida the Ibis' that live around here (either white or glossy ibis) dont look like these. The white ibis has an orange beak and the glossy ibis isn't mostly white like this. Other then that. The shot is nice the wings are all frozen well why is it so grainy thought?

I normally don't comment on portraits, especially staged shots, but this image caught my eye. Its a very appealing image with the flare from the sun and the heavy shadows, I just think it may be a touch too deep in the shadows Its really hard to see much more then the highlights of her knee and forward boot and her hand. Id like to see it exposed slightly more.

I think a soft flash woulda helped here greatly. My eyes struggle to read the bottles. I can make it out but id would be nicer if it was lit better. Also the strait beam like menioned in the comment above. Other then that very nice.

I hope this was in a zoo because if it wasn't the next frame could have been really interesting. Its a little underexposed in the shadows for my liking his eyes are there but not the clearest. Other then that its an interesting picture, original thought.

    Arctic terns

I love this picture. The terns are prefect the moment of capture is superb. Great job. I also love the framing you can see the ice under the tern, then you have the background which you can tell is glaciers or to me it is lol. Great Job. Keep it up

I love this image. The contrast of the whit rock and orange butterfly is fantastic and the perception that the butterfly is looking over the edge scared even though he can easily fly makes it very nice. Great capture! Keep it up

Okay... This is my first piece of this nature and I hope to be able toexpand this gallery in the way which I see it in my mind. Throughouthistory and across the world there are and have been myriads ofdifferent religions all with their own views and their own beliefs. This gallery is not about that. This gallery is about the aestheticperspectives of the symbols which different religions use. So myrequest here is to please gear comments towards the symbolismpresented in the photograph. Does it present a perspective which theviewer can identify no matter their personal religion. All commentswelcome though. (This idea and this gallery is largely UNDERCONSTRUCTION and DEVELOPMENT). Thanks for your time.

Great Capture From the looks of it you are using shadows/highlights in CS3 to adjust the photos, my only suggestion is adjust ur radius down to a lower pixel count then you used here so you don't get the aura effect that is present on this photo. Other then that great job. Keep it up.
