  1. Nice shot. Great capture! May I ask your settings for this shot? Also how did you manage to get this shot especially hand held with a 60mm micro-Nikkor. Id like to know how you went about this shot. Was it staged or just in the wild? (I shoot the D200, will be purchasing that lens soon, and I shoot mostly handheld. Thats why im so interested in you specifics) :)

Gorgeous color! My only issue is the cropping. It MAY look nicer more tightly cropped. Or it may not I'm not sure thats an point of artistic preference. I am a fan of tight cropping but in this one especially, that forward flower completely out of focus bothers my eyes, they are drawn to it. Also if the cropping was a bit tighter you could see some of the fabulous detail on the butterfly. Great shot! Keep it up

PS only reason for the 5/6 is that front flower. :(

Id appreciate any comments and all ratings. Lemme know what do youthink about me leaving the other heron in the background. Should Ihave cropped it out? or removed it in PS? What do you think? If yourate lower then 5/5 please let me know why. Leave a comment. Thanks

Ok here is the deal. I appreciate anything you have to comment oncolors, composure, technical info, all else. Thank you for those inadvance.

But here is why I am actually posting this critique, this shot is in afolder called Compare. The folder has 3 different shots and 3additional croppings of the same Osprey. I would really like to knowwhich cropping and which shot you like best. Thanks Very Much for yourtime.

  2. I like it, Really sharp on the Kangaroos I agree with /\ thought the dark up top doesn't do anything for the photo and the layer of out of focus bothers me at the bottom. Was the camera really low to the ground or something? that is the only - to the photo, IMO. Great job otherwise keep it up.

Possible Pano Cropping I think its nice like this..

    Butterfly

Its interesting. Normally when you see a picture of a butterfly the important part is the body, they head, the proboscus, and then the flower, the wings often time trail out of focus this image is the exact opposite. When I first looked at it I wasnt a fan but upon viewing it larger I find i interesting. The body being out of focus still bothers me but I love the detail in the wings and flower. Good job on an abstract approach to a normal shot. (and dont think I dont appreciate what it takes to get a butterfly to stop his wings :) Good Job!)

  3. Ok I worked on the ones from this page a bit I got it all lined up but its alot of work.

    http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p316/Photoragon/Untitled-1.jpg

I donno what you did in between these shots but its really weird in one shot the trees seem to be taller then in the other because when I line up the background horizon the trees are taller. I thought maybe it was a zoom issue but the background lines up to well for that. So I had to cut the foreground apart and realign it. This one isn't DONE because I'm not gonna fine tune an image of low quality. Id be able to do much more with the originals.

Basically I did end up using what I told you in the first one. I used a very soft opacity eraser with a large feathered edge. Then got in closer between the leaves with a softer smaller edge. Again its not perfect but I only spent a little time on it. To do it right would be a bit more in depth but the same process. Just keep taking the edge smaller and smaller till you down as detailed as you want. If its done right it will FLAWLESSLY merge the images.

PS - In essence its just gonna take a lot of time and work for you to see the results you want unfortunately there is no quick fix all button that I know of. (If you find one let me know)

  4. Ok on second thought most of what I said back there can be scratched on this particular image....umm gimme a little bit I'm trying to do it with your image now to see what I can use to combine em.....Ill post again when I figure some out...Do you think I could get the originals It would be MUCH easier then with the small images i pulled off your page. If yes send em to my email.

  5. ok I haven't used this process to combine two photo's I have taken like this as of yet but it should be a very similar process. and its VERY easy. you have the two layers the foreground should be the top layer (this is preference if you want it the other way then you just switch my instructions around). I forgot to check what program your using, I'm going to assume photoshop since thats most common. Its a very simply thing. Use the eraser tool on the top layer at a low opacity. the lower the opacity the better. Each time you click it will remove what ever % of the layer you have it set to so if the opacity is too low just click more. If you do this with a large brush head with a feathered edge. DONT WORRY ABOUT BEING EXACT. If your exact then a line will be created as a seem. The human eye will pic up on this If you look in my gallery on the bottom there are 4 pictures under the section "Sequences" These are all compiled pictures I did with up to 13 frames making up the largest of them, all that was done using the eraser and opacity tool to stitch them (the water in the dive sequences isn't perfect cause I got lazy) This is only one method. Im sure there are others. I hope I helped. Lemme know if you have any other Q's.

    New Angle

          1
I chose nature as the catagory not macro becasue I was shooting withthe Nikon 70-300, anything but a macro lens. But I would appreciateyour input, how could this shot have been better? What do you thinkabout the angle, the crop, and the colors? Also the wing beingslightly out of focus...is that too distracting? Thanks again Iappreciate all your comments.

    Power

Gorgeous shot I love the power in the water how do you manage to get the water to react in the lens like that so that it has that spray effect is that all shutter speed? or is there something else to it?

Shot over the fishing dock on Santa Cruz Island the frigate birds come

from all over the island and will circle and soar for hours waiting

for a chance at some of the scraps. Lemme know what you think about

the cropping and all I know its a little grainy but i don't feel its

TOO bad. Thanks for your input.

Unfortunately I could not think of a better name for such a pretty

picture...I'm open to suggestions. Id appreciate any input on how this

    picture could of been better.

  6. This was a truely moving place for me to be and I tried as best I

could to portray the power which eminated from this place or more so

from what could be seen from it. Any suggestions on how it could have

    been done better?

    Skate to Sun

Great shot, I like the dark silhouette with how you can just get to see the edge of detail on their sides facing the sun. The only small issue I have with the photo is your eyes are drawn to black since the foreground is silhouetted, this ends up leading your eye off the photo becasue of the amount of black in the top left...I am thinking maybe a little tighter cropping might solve that prob if it was cropped almost square most that black on the top left vanishes. scroll the picture down so his hand is about a 1/2 inch from the top of the screen you may see what I'm saying. But technicalities aside.....great capture.

    Summer Boy - 2

I like the shot a lot the composition as well as the colors or tones more so since its b&W are great the only thing i have to say is in the cropping it is very good don't get me wrong and I'm not sure how your do your cropping since there are a number of ways to do it but if you softened the edge of it just a tiny bit i think it might be that much better cause it looks cropped to my eye, especially around the back edge of his head but fantastic job on the hair hair like that is a pain to crop no matter how you do it. If you have any questions about what i mean shoot em over ill try to answer if i can. Other then that Great Job Keep it up

  7. I would use most of the words u used to describe this place. It is very other worldly. The ONLY thing that kind of distracts me in teh image is the one pole so close to the camera. in some perspectives of the image I like it. But in others I like the image without it. Im not saying cropped differntly becuase seeing the fog off in the distance is definitally a big boon on this image. Over all I love it!
