Iceberg - Upsala Glacier - Argentina -

Blue ice occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and

becomes part of a glacier. During its travels, all of the air bubbles

that are trapped in the ice are squeezed out, and the size of the ice

crystals increases, making it clear. The ice is blue for the same

reason water is blue. Namely, it is a result of an overtone of a OH

molecular stretch in the water which absorbs light at the red end of

the visible spectrum. (From Wikipedia )

That is really a great shot! I like that blue ice and water with that dark backround. It has great colours and sharpness. Regards!

Stunning Photo. Is the ice really that blue, or have you tweaked it a little? Whatever, it is still a beautiful picture. Very well done!

Regards.

Wow, to be there, taking that picture - lucky you! Must have been an incredible experience. Thanks for the detailed information on why the ice is blue. I love the contrast between the dark sky and the bright blue ice.

Being from "Iceberg Alley", I've seen many icebergs of all shapes and sizes, but this is the first time I have ever seen anything like this, it's so...blue!

great as an abstract, I was there the ice is not that blue, nothing wrong with enhancement, it's in the eye of the beholder.

I have seen many pics of icebergs with that light blue cast that is so gorgeous, but this is a real gem. Stunnuing. Regards, Bernie

Gorgeous. I too like the contrast of dark background and blue ice, but the breaking wave blowing in the wind makes the shot for me. Makes me shiver looking at it. 7/7

Astonishing. It's hard to believe the color is authentic. Perceptual impression is very strong though!
