  1. This page seems to offer more details than I've seen before on this topic. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to find it.

    <P>

    Look for:<P>

    <P>

    (9) This camera's built-in formatter will reformat cards over 2GB as FAT32 with a 4K cluster size, if the formatting is already FAT32 with a 4K cluster size. If the card is already formatted FAT32 with a 32K cluster size, the D100 appears to retain the 32K cluster size when reformatting. A 4K cluster size means less efficient camera-to-card transfers than FAT32 formatting with a 32K cluster size, so we've tested FAT32-formatted cards both ways in this camera. The only way with this camera to format a card FAT32 with a 32K cluster size initially is on the computer: we used the Format function in Disk Management in Windows XP.

    CompactFlash Write Speed - Nikon D100 (Firmware Version 2.00)<P>

  2. I tried a 4gb card on my D100 and it didn't handle it well.

    <P>

    My camera doesn't have the upgrade needed. :(

    <P>

    Now my camera stops working about at about 2/3 of the card's capacity.

    <P>

    If I continue on using the card the camera makes this awful sound that you NEVER want to hear your camera make. <shudder>

    <P>

    I have 2 cards that this is happening with. I thought I'd try buying a new compact flash card, but 1 gb cards are hard to find and I'm wondering if a 2gb card will work with this D100 since the 4gb card didn't work out.

    <P>

    Thanks!

  3. One feature I really wanted to see was the ability to meter using my old Nikon AI lenses.

    <P>

    Quote from Nikon webpage...

    <P>

    "Non-CPU AI NIKKOR: Autofocus not supported. Can be used in exposure modes A and M but exposure meter does not function. Electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is 5.6 or faster;

    Color Matrix Metering and aperture value display supported if user provides"

    <P>

    Bummer!

    >I am actually interested to know how you did know that?<P>

    <P>

    I've been having awful problems with the D100 overexposing images - just blasting them. I'm told that the controller for the aperture might be sticking...<P>

    Anyway, it was just a hunch that Dhani had a D100 too.<P>

    Thanks for writing!<P>

  5. Of course it depends on the situation. When I photographed a <a href="http://pages.prodigy.net/chicagocubs/">Cubs game</a> I had to shoot thru the dreaded backstop net. I realized that the camera would AF on that net. So I used manual focus and pre-focused the lens. From that distance, there wasn't much difference between 1st base, the pitcher, etc.<P>

    If I had a press pass and was closer to the action (without the net in my way) I'd probably be quite thankful for the auto-focus feature.<P>

    I do prefer the feel of a manual focus lens over an AF when using manual focus.<P>

    Whatever you decide, be sure to use a monopod or tripod. That'll do wonders for your photos that use a telephoto lens. <P>

    Let us know what you end up deciding.<P>

  6. When I went to a Cubs game last year my husband held the camera and monopod for me while I disappeared for a little while. He said that while I was away he overheard someone say that something he had should've been confiscated. I've wondered if they meant the camera or the monopod.<P>

    I'd like to get a cane handle to find the monopod. Does anything like this exist?<P>

  7. Ok, I admit it. "Nikon" is one of my keyword searches on the

    Tivo...but it never comes up with anything.<P>

    Google has a new feature for video alerts. I gave it a try using the

    searchword "Nikon".<P>

    <a

    href="http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Nikon">http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Nikon</a><P>

    Give it a try every now and then and see what results you find.<P>

    ---------------<P>

    I also read an interview today with George Harrison's son Dhani.<P>

    It states:<P>

    We are in Harrison's study; having passed framed outtakes for the

    cover shoot of the Beatles' Abbey Road in the corridor outside. Pete,

    the photographer, is trying out his new camera, which he has just

    bought with the help of a substantial loan. "Are you sure there won't

    be too much light if I'm sitting here?" Harrison asks him, casually.

    "I know because I've got one of those myself." <P>

    I know that's not much info, but I'm wondering if Dhani's got a Nikon

    D-SLR. What do you think? <P>

  8. The Chicago Tribune is running an interactive feature where Cubs and White Sox fans can send in their own photos of their family, friends and themselves somehow connected to their favorite team such as at the ballbark, wearing team hats, etc.<P>

  9. I use a Lowepro toploading bag which has just enough room for a camera, telephoto lens, flash and some compact flash cards.

    <P>

    The Helix website offers useful photos of various bags that might help you figure out what you're looking for.<P>

    I don't work for Helix, but I have been a customer of theirs for over 25 years. (Oh great, now I feel old.)<P>

  10. Thanks for the warning. I had a funny feeling that something like that might happen with the old b/w emulsions.<P>

    Does anyone know if film cleaner (the kind you use with a q-tip to wipe off the gunk) would pose a potential harm to the old negatives?<P>

    Thanks again!<P>

  11. Hi Friends!<P>

    I'm still scanning my old b/w negatives when really I should be

    cleaning them first.<P>

    Okay, this hasn't been an issue for quite a long time. (Excuse me

    while I hug a digital camera)...<P>

    Anyway, what is the best way to clean the goop (dust, hair, sludge)

    off the b/w negatives from my high school days?<P>

    Are there any products that I should really avoid considering the age

    of the film or just should avoid regardless?<P>

    Thanks again!<P>

    Diana<P><div>00B13W-21708484.jpg.0cb25daedb05642dc8fe0706385cc0bc.jpg</div>

  12. Thanks everyone for the helpful answers. I am getting scans out of this thing. Is there a way to tell it to scan the entire strip of negatives or does it need to be done one frame at a time?<P>

    Thanks again!<P>

    Diana<P>

    PS: You can access links to the newer scanned images <a href="http://www.leovilletownsquare.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=734909">here</a> and also <a href="http://www.leovilletownsquare.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=734940">here</a>.<P>

    The Cubs fans here might enjoy these.

  13. Hi! I have use of a Nikon Coolscan LS-30. Found some b/w negatives

    from the 1970's from the Cubs games I attended at Wrigley Field.<P>

    I could use some advice on the procedure of how to scan the negatives.<P>

    Step one, two, three...

    Can you recommend a website that would walk me thru this or just type

    it out?<P>

    Also, I read that the digital ice feature doesn't work with b/w.

    Wow, is that a bummer or what? My home developed negatives look

    clean until you scan them. Then they look pretty goopy.<P>

    <a

    href="http://leovilletownsquare.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Number=734324">Here

    is what I have scanned and uploaded so far.</a><P>

    I could also use advice on how to make the images look better via

    photoshop.<P>

    Thank-you!<P>
